So, Rafe isn't going to be able to play again till the last week of September. He'll be in Spain.

Adam will be at GenCon til- ?? Dunno when, but surely it's not very long. Maybe we can start when Adam get's back from GenCon? That would give us a pretty firm date, which is good. Rafe said he was cool with us starting the next chapter without him. We'll still be playing when he gets back, I am sure.

If you guys need the sweet RL fix satiated in between now and then, I can open an interim thread to bridge the chapters and allow for some character development, tying up loose ends, side adventures,etc.

Oh hey, waaaaay back you mentioned something about letting us know the differences between RL cannon and your campaign world. Is there anything significantly different besides the size of this city?

A word about XP and levels: I am using Rafe's method of advancement for this PHP. PCs will advance when I tell you, based on various factors [ cunning plans enacted, good roleplaying, monsters whomped, etc]. For now, you all remain at level 3, but if you guys keep at it, 4th level isn't too far away.

There are other rewards, of course.
In Richemulot, access to contacts and information is at least as important as physical power and wealth [moreso, oftentimes]. Making friends, discovering secrets about your enemies, etc are all very important rewards.

Norzak will as already stated us more:

1] Arrange with Denys to have Anja sort of taken care of[ As ewan said, her caretakers get better jobs because of Sancerre. Norzak gives them two gems

2] Dont laugh here: Have a bath and find a watering hole through the dwarvish baker. As if humans know anything about ale! Bah!

3]Take up Denys as a problem solver agency. It's always good to have contacts. Sometimes information is worth more than gold.

4] Attend the ball but in his usual attire. It will be clean!

Yes, several things:

All map distances in the Core and adjacent domains are tripled! In many cases, urban populations remain about the same , but keep in mind there are often smaller settlements not shown on the ''big map.'' There's a LOT more wilderness in my Ravenloft, with the major cities in some regions constituting something like the ''points of light'' from 4E. [don't worry, I'm not going to swittch to 4E! ]

Guns are a bit cheaper than in the official books, although many nations still favor the old school- bows and crossbows [remember , wars are infrequent and usually skirmishing affairs, so firepower supierioty is less of a factor].

No Sheriff Von Zarovich.

Arkandale is bigger, and includes the back country region of Verbrek. Half of the land is wilderness/fronier, with log cabin dwelling hillfolk, and the farmers and craftsmen of the towns and plantations in the more civilized Musarde Valley. It's very much inspired by Andrew Wyatt's Old South reworking of the domain. They have enourmous riverboats[ steam tech with a little wizard magic tossed in!].

Vlad Drakov isn't titled 'Kingfuhrer', just King of Falkovnia.

I don't own the Gaz, for starters! Heh. My own take on Barovia has Strahd as a very distant figure. The Boyars pretty much rule the domain outside of the vicinity of Castle Ravenloft /the village of Barovia- but they ALWAYS pay the Devil Strahd his taxes/tribute. Failing to do so is a suicidally bad idea.

A triple sized Core [originally i had it as ten times the size, but that was a bit too big- I like 'pocket kingdoms'] means travel times are longer, there is more wilderness, etc. There are bandits and monsters out there....


I assume that the canon books' population counts never include transients [gypsies, beggars, itinerant workers, peddlars,etc] and leave out the little thorps and holdfasts of the wild country. There are more people out there than the official numbers indicate, but many areas of my [enlarged] Core have pretty low population densities.

IMC, the Gendarmie of Pont-a-Museau is a centralized tax-funded organization- a regular police force, of sorts. It has no detectives, however, and has a poor track record of actually solving crimes. Its primary function is to keep order in the nicer parts of town and keep trouble confined to the poorer districts.


When someone wants help with a matter that requires subtlety, investigative services, or additional protection - that person will hire private detectives or guards.

And yes, moon madness......
