Hey Alex... Sandy did little more than pop up on my news radar...

No one I know was really affected by it but with the election coverage swamping things you had to look online to get more than a passing notice of it without some political bull behind it.

Still I hear conflicting reports on how bad it really was so I don't know what to think on it.

How are things with you? You done moving?

Sandy was bad. VERY bad. Millions of people (literally) across New Jersey, New York City, and Long Island lost power. Thousands still do not have power 10 days later. The New Jersey coastline, including Atlantic City, suffered a lot of damage, and Staten Island, NY - my hometown - may have suffered the most. My parents' home in Midland Beach became a mud-covered, waterlogged mess. They lost a great deal of belongings, some of which are irreplaceable. Fortunately, they heeded the evacuation order the day before, but the home will likely not be livable for some time, if ever. In that area, the storm surge from Sandy's arrival destroyed homes, threw boats and cars for blocks, and killed people. Here's a snippet of info from last week. Too many early reports or even others painted it worse than or less than by comparing it to other disasters or by some failure of some institution.

I really just wondered about it as its own thing and the people involved as its own thing rather than to compare it to others. People are people and I don't like agendas mixed with my news so much! Makes me trust it less...

The article seems removed from everything but the issues of the event and the people and that makes me trust it. Also since you offer a bit of an insider story I like to think I can trust it more because of this. Sorry for your families troubles and I hope things get back to normal for all the afflicted people soon.

Sorry for the delay in answering, it has been a busy week. I haven't moved yet, but will do so next Saturday. So this week it's all about packing and saying good bye to friends and family.

I knew Sandy had been bad, but I didn't know you and yours lived on the East Coast, Ken. I was in Hawaii last week, and so every morning I woke up with the news on Sandy (more than elections, actually). I sincerely hope you can recover quickly, and that there has been no loss of life in your family, as I know some people have died. Unfortunately, these disasters are getting more frequent, but at least there was some time to prepare.

I saw my parents over the weekend. They're doing well, all things considered, and are making themselves at home at my brother's townhouse (it'll be, ah, cozy for the three of them, but it's manageable). Although I didn't get over to our old house, my mother showed me photos that she took -- it was even worse than I had imagined, and like Han Solo, I can imagine quite a lot. Now we're just going to pay the Insurance Game and hope my parents roll a solid hit on getting compensation. It's pretty certain, though, that the house will end up getting condemned. What a mess.

Looking forward to kicking some undead butt in this game again!

Flying tomorrow morning for London. I may be out of net for a while, but not much I hope. =)

*grinds teeth* I am tempted to think the game was cursed because I failed to start it on Halloween, as per forum tradition.

My beloved laptop is having trouble with the DNS-lookup. I get the internet in brief fits, so I'm sending this message from my dear sister's computer... Needless to say, I am trying to find a solution. Please bear with me, once more... *groans*
