been reading horror manga, and it hit me, we need more Asian horror in ravenloft (the ones we have are to few to me)

so add your ideas, discuss, have fun

ideas:

1. a ruthless warlord rules with a iron fist, the only thing stopping him from perfect control is supernatural beasts (yokai) that infest the land and target him (not all of which try to kill or harm him but annoy and disrupt)
2. a evil monk failed to react enlightenment (he hid his disregard of others and feelings of superiority with piety), his spirit is bond to his self mummified body, now in a monastery founded on his teachings (that are lies and excuses he told)
3. a medium/shaman/exorcist conman and fraud (he exaggerate his own power/knowledge and the threat of the few spirits he meets) now he has huge spiritual power but it makes near by spirits stronger with no way to control them.

Repost from another thread.

The domain is in the high mountains.

The Darklord is a lady monk. She is said to controls the flow of souls to the afterlife and cycle of reincarnation. In fact, she only controls death by proxy: her real power is to gather 'devotion' from the living people in her domain by demanding various religious ceremonies, practices, and rituals. The people believe her to be the reincarnation of a greater elder who could freely control life and death and the karmic destination of the soul. The Darklord studies the secret texts of the elders who came before, but while they describe various grey rituals and allude to greater wisdoms, they do not describe the true techniques for total mastery over life and death.

The bureaucracy of souls is an organized collection of those who have died and are afraid to pass through the Grey Gate into the mists. To stop themselves from moving on, they require the Darklord's gathered "devotion". Since devotion is a limited currency, only a finite number of souls can persist. This creates intrigue as the bureaucracy must determine who is worthy to persist. They maintain the Darklord's illusion of power and control over life and death. They are also necessary to keep the domain green enough to live in. Without the bureaucracy, winds would scour the slopes and the domain would be frozen solid under glaciers.

Folk Character: Carefully handcrafted goods to show devotion to craft. Extreme asceticism and complex ceremonies and practices which show high religiosity, often combined with feats of strength like carrying someone through mountains.

Side intrigue: Some necromancers are trying to farm their own "devotion" with cults that are ruthlessly hunted down and stamped out - the cultists are often innocents who don't realize they are being taken advantage of.

Cultural: Traditional Mexico + Tibet?

Themes to hit: The trope of post-death organized societies which act on the living (e.g. a celestial bureaucracy), gathering devotion as a metaphor for the stress of exams and school studying, the feelings of traditional ceremonies for the dead, duty versus freedom and remembrance versus moving on.

 martial arts domain, like the classic kung fu moves.

the darklord is a kung fu master, he killed the former master of the school with treachery. he has killed or crippled all other masters so his school is the only one, but someone is teaching kung fu so others may have vengeance on him
