bit of a longshot here, but I remember reading something in one of the Quoth issues about regional characteristics for characters based on their domain of origin? It was a list of traits that functioned in between feats and racial traits. Been looking though back issues for a few days but no luck so far. Anyone remember anything like what I'm describing?

That exists in 2e Domains of Dread but the 3e Gazetteers also have a more generic approach than the stereotypical one presented in DoD.

Ooh! Domains of dread is the only 2e book I physically own for the setting. I'll poke through it some more, usually I only read the darklord lore and some geographical info. Thanks for the idea. I also have 3 of the gazeteers physically and the others in pdf format so I can definitely check and compare, maybe blend them a bit if it seems appropriate.

Mephisto, I think the Gaz just described how people reacted / were expected to react. I don't remember the Gaz to have "traits" as a game mechanic, but more like cultural identity. The DoD on the other hand, from the fog of my memory had... something. I don't recall if they were kits but I remember for Sebua the Children in the stone age or for Odiare the kids etc.

No it didn't thats why I wrote generic, meaning that identity originates from traits or attributes that individuals may have little or no control over, such as their family background or ethnicity. DoD gives pluses or minuses and sometimes a bonus specific proficiency to native domain PCs. Gaz does what you wrote plus suggestions of how a native PC should be built, suggesting classses skills and feats.

This thread reminds me of "regional feats", something they implemented for 3.X Forgotten Realms, where depending on a character's native "region" they could choose a feat at level 1 from a list that represented their region's culture/features; regional feats tended to be slightly more powerful than most other feats and/or stacked well with them (i.e. the "Blooded" feat gave +2 initiative that stacked with Improved Initiative's +4 and all other bonuses, +2 spot that also stacked with all other bonuses, and immunity to the "shaken" condition but not higher forms of fear conditions).

Has something like that been done for Ravenloft? Though in this case, Domain would likely be used instead of region.
