Hi from the Kosher Pickled Punk

Hi there! It's been a while since I've posted on the Fraternity's message boards (though I have been posting occaissionally at the WotC boards as Prof. Pacali). Thought I would drop by and say hello.

I recently bought the 3.5 Masque of the Red Death book. Boy is it a mess. Even with the erratta, it doesn't make sense. So I decided to try changing the rules to better fit my campaign. First to go was anything which smacked of 2E, such as arcane casters not getting bonus feats. Secondly I renamed the Shootist class. Shootist is the dumbest class name I ever heard of. IMC they shall henceforth be known as Marksmen and Markswomen. I'll try to post all of the changes I made to the rules, and get some feedback.

Have a good night,

The Kosher Pickled Punk

Shootist? Is that even close to a word?

Was a classic John Wayne movie....but a pitiful class name.

shootist
noun

slang:
1. Someone who shoots.
2. A skilled or accomplished marksman.

Hello KPP,

Sure we would be interested in seeing your adjustements to the MotRD setting. You can post here or on the MotRD board.

Uh, boy, am I really the only one who liked that book at least a bit?

-I've the Sleuth class and the Brute in my current fantasy campaign...

I kinda liked it, but I was reading for flavor, not rules.

And the shootist (well, a version thereof) is featured in the Deadlands setting as well.

I felt exactly that the book is just for that, after reading it. I think I will go crazy trying to understand the rules, and I don't own a copy of the original MotRD boxed set!!!
I feel I can create my own rules with this, then again, If I do so, why did I bought the book??

I am eager to know which changes you do to the rules Pickled Punk, I am with you 100%

That kewl, because I must honestly say that it was the 3e RL book I liked most, so far, except DoD and the campaign setting... :? Given that those books were bashed my great parts of the community, I have proven to have a strange gusto. :ankhtepot:

If it's any consolation, most of the changes are minor. For example, I've kept the extended casting times for spells, and I haven't tinkered with the concept of skill specialization. It's just that when I finally bought the book, I immediately jumped to chapter three, to see the new rules (I own the original boxed set, so I am familiar with the setting itself). I almost immediately took a pen and began scibbling in the book (mostly crossing out the word shootist, replacing it with the word marksman). One thing led to another, and I decided to try overhauling some of the problems with the book. I am glad I found the erratta list for the mystic, because the write-up for the class and its variants was very confusing. I'll post all the changes tonight in a separate post.

 The old boxed set is really somthing that is hard to compete with. I should add that while I found the 2e very interesting, I think I'll never host a 3e MotRD game based on the new book. However, I found it very interesting, to bastardize some material for my different campaigns. (Especially the monsters and some of the campaign ideas. To find material for low-fantasy concepts is really hard.)

Okay, I posted my "modifications" on the MotRD board. Any comments?
