RL reference in "Stormwrack"

Did anyone else catch this coy tidbit from the sidebar at the bottom of p. 201 in "Stormwrack"? It's from one of the sample adventures:
"Rumor suggests that these mists are the reason why some ships disappear. If sailors' tales are to be believed, ships that disappear into the mists are pulled into another, darker world of terror from which nothing escapes. Of course, most such disappearances are the work of [the monsters], but it is noteworthy that they are not responsible for all the disappearances. When this unnatural fog lies thick and terrible above the waters, [the monsters] are careful to avoid the surface and its dreadful cloak of fog."
Not exactly a full-blown name-drop, but it's a pretty strong hint at least, and a good sign for "Heroes of Horror" too. At least the sailors of core-D&D still remember the setting we love to fear! ;-)

And probably the 2nd adventure of the Grand Conjuction.

I'm not holding my breath, dense mist were always something that sailors feared as any manner of monster could hide within.

Sailors feared monsters in the fog, true. But when the *monsters* are scared of them, there's bound to be something more to mists ... or should we say "Mists"? ;-D

I asked the question on the stormwrack thread on the WotC board. We'll see if an author answers :)

Noting the "Heroes of Horror" book I just saw on the WotC line.. maybe they want the setting back as the "official" setting for their horror venue? Would make sense.. and if this is old news, I apologize. Greatly out of deate, be Watcher.

No, Heroes of Horror is about how to insert horror into your game, not the beginning of using a setting. If that were the case then Heroes of Battle would have been followed with a return of something like Birthright, where characters are more likely to get involved in full scale wars. Besides, they want to avoid market dillution that too many settings cause. (and it was Arthaus that decided not to renew the rights, not Wizards).

Ravenloft was being produced and they were getting free money for no risk. Pulling back the rights only to bring it out again themselves (with all the risk and cost of development) makes no sense.
