Well, something like that.

Today I was forwarded a petition against the imfamous 'Bonsai Kitten' website, which it turns out is still on the net. First, before I talk any more about this topic, I'd like to point out that this web site is a hoax, as stated by the Humane Society in the united States.

http://www.hsus.org/pets/issues_affecti ... index.html

It would seem that the campus Virgin at M.I.T. had perhaps a bit too much time on his hands. Just in case anybody actually thought this was real.

On that note, the very idea of a 'Bonsai [insert living creature here]' might make a good dread possibility. Perhaps not necessarily Markov (since he's more of a cut-n-paste guy), but a different villan. Any thoughts about frightening players with bonsai humans?

I think that the Chinese girls used to wear very small shoes made of wood so that they feet didn't grow large.

Bonsai Kitty!!!

I love that site! So funny, and so obviously a hoax that it was great when the right-wingers starting fuming over thier cornflakes for nothing.

I also had to convince Trebor it was a hoax. The fool.

If you search for "Bonsai" in the net, this site is second... It has attracted a lot of attention.

I wonder how many kittens have died because people just believed that putting a cat in a jar and feeding it is enough for it to survive, when its bones start crashing and clashing.

Oh, and it is Tristessa that got that cats, not Markov.

Probably none. I'm sure that the cat would have fought back, and give people some credit, al!

It is not a cat... it is a kitten and a few weeks old at that. :)

BTW feeding relaxing drugs to a kitten is a sure way to kill it. So people have also probably killed their kitten by trying to anesthisize it so they can close it on a bottle.

No, they did not.
During the Tang Dynasty, supposedly, some noblewomen attempted to imitate this one legendary dancer, who was said to have tiny feet, who was romanced by the Emperor.
In order to imitate her, these women broke their feet, at the arches, and bound their feet with silk bandages, so as to give the appearance of tiny, or "lotus bud" feet.
During the Ming Dynasty, virtually all of the noblewomen were practising foot-binding, and they would do so by breaking the feet of their daughters, at around the age of 5 or 6, and then after immediately after breaking their feet, they would then compel/teach their daughters to walk again.

I wonderhow many seconds people had to think of it before realizing it's a joke :)

I'm sure there are people who never did realize it was a joke. There are alot of stupid people out there. I am rarely ever upset by things I see on the internet, but the idea of idiots stuffing their cats into jars because of this hoax is enough to make me strangle someone. The thing is, adults might not try it (though I wouldn't put it past some) but children are more suggestable and less prone to recognizing the repercusions of their actions.

Truly, a terrifying story.
This means that anyone can have their internet site attacked, shut down and even investigated by the FBI - even when all common sense shows that it is a hoax.
Worse still, the Humane Society continues to encourage attacks - when they themselves have proven that the whole purpose is a joke.
Its cause for concern that someone who doesn't like a joke can then harrass the joker. Society's standards are being set by the most sensitive - gauranteeing a future of bland, nonoffensive and noninteresting culture.
Watch out guys, its only a matter of time before some religious nut decides this site is offensive and harrasses our Host to shut it down.

PS: I like the dog-shaped-kitty - it would be like making gold out of garbage.

You are lucky of not knowing such people guys.
I have heard in the news of a group of fanatics in Greece that burned a dog alive because his fur was at the color of the opposite team in a football game.

I personally know (thankfully few) people in the City I leave that are 1. stupid 2. cruel and sadists. They would certainly like the idea of stuffing small defenceless kittens in a jar. If the kittens died a torturous death? No problem...
One of them was bragging a month ago how he caught a cat by the tail and started hitting her around the walls and the table. I believe he was exaggerating trying to impress us, but this site would really make him happy.

BTW Van this one I mentioned is the current boyfriend of Lucretia.

I always was with the impression many european soccer fans were rabid, but that's another debate :) (or the lowest common denominator theory).

I still think education is the best way to help these people. Making sure they understand it's a joke will make them more mistrustful of what you find on the Internet.

As for cruel and sadist, they will always find something else to make them "happy".

Like leaving burned popcorn in the microwave, for example.

Hence why I clarified in the original post that this was indeed a hoax.

Truth being told, the forward I was given about this site included the names of a good two hundread people. I was also sure to send the forward back with the link to the article by the humane society, thus clearing up that Bonsai cats are indeed a joke.

There is no need to worry. As it states in the article given, no body can have ANYTHING on this guy until he actually violates someone elses rights. Not to mention, the idea of internet censorship is VERY ambitious. I somehow think that if this website about bonsai kittens was shut down, a very similar site would pop up (such was the case when Napster was shut down from being a free-file sharing program). And on that note, if there would be a great deal of trouble tearing down a site about bonsai kittens, it would be even harder to tear down the frat.

I disagree - it would be fairly easy.

Let's say someone, Nut A, decides that the Frat should be shut down. Well, they could then claim that it is a satanic website and provide a few out of context quotes to support it.
For example, a thread on our board related to putting kittens into jars.
They could then follow the site and discover its host server, then contact said server and argue that the Frat was supporting satanic worship, and maybe throw in some other arguments, such as how satanic boards encourage crime, suicide, drug use, ect....
Now, even if our Host is smart enough to realize its a whole lot of bunk. Nut A has a vast resource available - all the Nuts from B- infinity.
Just like the Humane Society did, our insidious Nut A can start an email campaign amonhst other nuts to petition our Host to shut down our site.
The ebst part of Nut A's plan is that it is very unlikely that Nuts B-Infinity will even look at the site. After all, they don't like satanic sites, and the only thing they know is that the site in question has satanic content, hence, they won't want to look at the site that they are petitioning to have removed.

Theoretically, Nut A can go the extra step and make baseless claims of criminal activity to law enforcement agencies. The funny thing about accusations is that they don't have to be true - the police have to investigate anyway!

The Host will be quickly overwhemlmed by emails from so many different sources, and investigations from officals, that he or she will have to cave.
Once the site is removed and placed somewhere else, the cycle continues ad infinitum. Do you think its just a fluke that the Human Society was able to get the site moved multiple times.

In the end, it comes down to a battle of wills, or more correctly, who has the most time to spend on the issue.
Its a law of the universe - who ever has the most free time (and attention span) rules the world.
