The Deathstone

I recently reread the description of the soul-sucking Deathstone in the Boritsi chapter of LotB. Ivanna not only created the Ermordenungen with it, she also arms them with soul-sucking daggers made from it. And the Deathstone soul-storage capacity is almost used up. Just a few more souls and it will burst releasing a horde of 2000 (!) Spectres on the Core. Could this be an event hinted at for the Time of Unparallelled Darkness?

This is one of the ideias I planned to use in my campaign in relation to the TOUD.

According to the description during the Grand Conjunction the souls in the Deathstone tried to send a mesage for Ivana. My idea is that the good souls trapped into the stone tried to warn Ivana that if she continues using the stone all the ancient evil spirits trapped inside will be released.

To majke the thing more climatic I was thinking in match the following events. Azalin starts his pnal involvind the children of the GC. For a few moments all the darklrods are freed from their curses. With this Falkovnia and Invidia will attack Borca and during the massacre of Borca, the Deathstone souls will be released.

I was thinking that Ivan would steal the stone, thinking it was the key to Ivana's immortality. While he has it, the final soul is trapped and he is killed in the ensuing Chaos. After all, the Gazetteers make it pretty clear which one keeps out invaders and which keeps the internal processes working. Killing Ivana would result in Ivan keeping out external forces while the system collapses from within.

Someone mentioned the ToUPD - I also remeber hearing some authors notes where they discussed the likelyhood of a great wa in the Core, in which Borca would be annihilated.
I wonder if those ideas would synch up?
Perhaps as Borca is put to the slaughter, Ivana retires to her manor to await the enivitable. Perhaps then she comes to the realization of the true potential for her deathstone. Perhaps she could sacrifice her remaining emourdung, ending with herself, to unleash her final vengance.

I don't know... I could see Ivana sacrificing her emourdung if it would serve her purposes but I can't see her taking her own life in the process. On the otherhand, I could see her using it to make herself more powerful.

Did the author's say that Borca would be completely destroyed (in the manor Gundarak was) or just that, as a country, it would suffer greatly in the war (such as occupation). I can see the death of at least one of the darklords, but two?

But would Ivana have any control over these Spectres? And if not, perhaps she's happy to come back as one than to die.

How easy/hard is it to kill these Spectres?

I'm not sure she would do something that would turn her into a spectre or grant her control over it. The deathstone is a key ingredient in turning people into emourdung, so who knows what else it is capable of creating.

The deathstone was specifically designed as a storage facility, so I wouldn't imagine there is a way to control the spectres (at least not without a completley different item). Taking it literally, spectres means a nasty type of creature 7 hit dice, energy drain, incorporeal and 2000 of them, all released simultaneously.

Remember that scene in Lord of the Rings?
The way is shut, indeed....

By way of reference, a 27th level character in Reckonings would have been demolished by half a dozen spectres if not for outside intervention.

I can see these things spreading out to wreak havoc, and ofer time the start gravitating to places of security. Powerful sinkholes of evil reinforce them against turning, and some could get caught up in a vortex of evil (lich ability) or--if they stray far enough--in the vortex of the House on Gryphon Hill. What's a scheming DL to do with all those extra troops?

crushing Borca

Borca would get crushed as a logical, but not necessarily an intended, consequence of Azalin's plan involving S. I do not think the Deathstone is involved in anyway, especially if it is not mentioned in the Gaz IV. This is not exactly the Time of Unparalleled Darkness either. But see Mangrum's description of the whole matter here:
