Non cannon

What products in particular are considered non-cannon for Ravenloft and more specifically why are they? Which excerpts or concepts go against the main? Did the material that refuted the Non-cannonical stuff get printed later? and if so that why did they change it or rule out the concept in question?

The Enemy Within, Lord of the Necropolis and the Desmond LaRouche entry in the Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium Appendix II.
The first because the background of the darklord Malken is completely different from later sources (the author was writing the book when the Red Box was written/published).
The second because it reveals what the Dark Powers are and what their goal is.
The third for far too similar reasons as the first. Pesky Malken.

Stupid question: LaRouche was the half-golem, correct? (I'd look it up, but I can't find that one, honestly... I had it in a Trapper with a couple of other things and who knows where that is now...)

Yes, LaRouche was the half-golem. He was turned into a half-golem by Tristen in order to save his life back when Tristen was still the Ravenloft version of Dr. Jekyll.

As I understand it Desmond LaRouche's background-history is non-canon, but he himself has been reincarnated in Gaz V as " a shambling mud-monster" haunting The Avener's District in Bergovitsa (see also the pic on pg.39).

Yes, apparently the transition from non-cannon to canon robbed LaRouche of his bones.

Little known fact...
It's not the transition from non-canon to canon that does it...it's the transition from canon to non-canon BACK to canon that does it.
And in Ravenloft, you're LUCKY if all that happens is you lose your bones.

"It would have to be an awfully LARGE cannon, wouldn't it?" - Azalin

That still gets me every time!

add to that " - Azalin" : "in the Kargatane board". Otherwise, people will think he ever said that in the books.
This is, if I understood your quote correctly.

Actually, thinking about the change-in-concept for Tristen...
From the old "Tristen hunting Malken and Malken hurting Tristan but Tristan doesn't know they're the same person" thing going, has anyone tried applying the story from Phillip K. Dick's
A Scanner Darkly to his story? This would have to apply to campaigns set in an earlier point in time in Nova Vaasa, as Sir Tristen learned around 748 that he and Malken were the same person, but it could be interesting to use and/or apply to a relative (like Stepan from LotB).

I remember that! Wasn't that in answer to a question like "How many patriarch vampires are in cannon
(sic) Ravenloft?"

Hi,
Once Andrew Cermak gave me the new history of Desmond LaRouche's background that was skipped from Gazetteer 5. If I could get his approval I would give out the exact text. since I saved the e-mail.

Actually, could I get his email address from you? (In a Private Mail, of course, as otherwise spammers would get him) I'd love to get the stuff he wrote on all of the different breeds of Vaasan horses but had to cut from GazV.

That would be cool.

And I would love if all the cut stuff could be collected and be published as a netbook-companion to the Gazetters for all to download.

There is apparently much cut material out there, just from the Gazetteres alone, add to this cut material from the "Masque of the Jade Dragon" and you have the next "Book of S"/"Quoth the Raven"-type netbook

.

Unfortunately, it was made clear that the cut material was not going to be released...
