Hi all,

Knowing that here are many who are well versed in the dread art of editing,
I thought it would be an idea to post this question here as well:

So, on Wednesday, I have to hand in my exam paper, a monster of a hundred pages.

Now, while mostly finished with everything, I have to confront rather unforeseen problems during editing:

I am usually pretty skilled using my MS Word 2003, but in this case, it seems to fail me.

Image

1. I'd like to have the page numbers all on the right side. (Not altering from left to right with every new page.

2. I'd like to either modify or cut out the line that separates the text from the footnotes.

Does anyone have any idea how I can do that?

I'd be eternally grateful!

Yours,

Rafe

Okay, first off, TO HELL WITH MS! After we finally learned how to use MS products, the Gates crew hid all the features we memorized.
Damn you!

Second, have you closed and reopened the doc., yet?
MSword has a nasty habit of temporarily showing you stuff that does not exist. Sometimes it sorts itself out.

Third, go to Page Layout on the menu bar.
[Or, if you have the old, good version of MS Word, click File, then select Page Setup.]
Then, on the menu bar, click the tiny box just to the right of where it says "Page Setup".
This will open the page setup dialogue box.
Click the "Layout" tab.
Under the heading "Headers and Footers" you will see the check box named "Different Odd and Even Pages". If your page numbers switch from left page to right page, this box is probably checked. Uncheck this box to force the page numbers to be on the same side of each page.

A belated, but heart-felt THANK YOU, man!

Without your immediate help by then, I would never have been able to layout my work well!

For the next works I write, I guess I'll go back to Open Office, or even LaTex.

Editing ~100 pages with Word was the living hell, though the result looked pretty good in the end.

Your totally welcome.

Word is actually a good program... if you have a year of professional training and experience using it.

Thank you again very much! :)

Word had never failed me before, but this time, I was totally lost for quite a while!
