Mordal was an assassin who worked for Baron von Kharkov. As a reward for his service, the baron gave Mordal the Fang of the Nosferatu. However, Mordal betrayed his master, so Baron von Kharkov took back the knife and imprisoned Mordal, using the dagger's requirement for blood to torture Mordal. After his eventual demise, the Fang disappeared. Rumors attribute its disappearance to Mordal's ghost making off with it.[1]

Mordal in the Laughing Man Module

Although it conflicts with the timeline presented in Hour of the Knife, one module[2] in Dungeon Magazine depicted Mordal as a bandit leader and the murderer of the Laughing Man of Valachan. Mordal is a ghost who is eternally pursued by the Laughing Man's ghost and is a victim of his maddening laughter.

In this module, the Laughing Man is part of the dagger's curse, for he who carries it becomes the Laughing Man's next target, Mordal attempts to convince the PCs to take the dagger and use it to slay the Laughing Man. Mordal himself attacks those who refuse him. His given statistics are for a Third Magnitude Ghost with Lawful Evil Alignment, the ability to take corporeal form, and the power to create illusions.
