From Mistipedia
Breaking on the wheel is a means of torture and execution. It makes us of a breaking wheel upon a condemned man is bound and his bones broken. The condemned may be left to die with infinite slowness in excruciating pain or, more mercifully, bludgeoned to death straight away.
