Whereas Ravenloft has the ancient dead that may vary in abilities and strength by power rank (in 3rd Edition, as a template), the core Monstrous Manual or Monster Manual gives a "standard" mummy common to all settings. According to Van Richten's Guide to the Ancient Dead, the standard mummy is a Rank 3 Ancient Dead.^[1]

A standard mummy can inflict mummy rot with its slam or fist attacks.The mere sight of a mummy can inflict a sense of paralyzing despair upon an observer^[2][3][4]

Foreboding fired by silence brought us to his door. We did not, however, proceed rashly. We had not forgotten the terrible strength of those accursed bones and the rotting touch of that leathery skin. We would confirm the fate of Annabel and, having laboured hard so that all was in readiness, burn the place to the ground.
