Joël Paquin

A good story by Elaine Bergstrom. I liked the progression in the Baroness efforts to get total revenge on the murderer of her father. She is really bad. Most characters are very well defined: the caring tutor, the Baron we learn to like, etc. Interesting politics twists.

I like the way it was (most probably) inspired by Elizabeth Bathory, the Carpathian Blood Countess (she was born in 1560, highly educated, at 15 she started torturing for pleasure many girls – a nice person! See the Observatory section of this site for links)

Perhaps also one of the best written novel, for the quality of the prose IMHO. 3.5 on 5!
