Appearance

Penelope is a rather weak ghost with the slighlty transparent image of a young girl. She is classified as a 2nd magnitude, incorporeal, anchored ghost according to the van Richten Guide to Ghosts.

Background

Penelope Lilia Godefroy is the daughter of Wilfred Godefroy.

The poor girtl suffered heavily under the tiranic rule of her father, and was eventually murdered by him when she witnissed her father killing her mother in a fit of jealousy.

Godefroy's complete history is detailed in Domains of Dread.

note: she is called Penelope in I10 - the House on gryphon Hill, and Lilia in Realms of Terror)

Current Sketch

Penelope haunts Gryphon Hill, as well as the grounds of the Weathermay Estate. Every night, she and her mother start looking for Wilfred Godefroy, to wreck her vengeance for their murders. Though the search can take all night, they always find him, tearing into him until his existence for that day ends, after which they leave him until he reforms again in the morning.

Personality

While Penelope can be very dangerous (esp. at low levels), DMs should make sure PCs realize that she is more a victim than a monster. It may even be possible for women to befriend her.

Nobody, however, should stand betwen her and her father. The girls' death drove her insane, and she burns with a lust for vengeance. Anyone interfering with that is concidered an enemy, and risks her wrath.

Combat

While the girl ghost is normally harmless, she has a deep hatred for her father. Unfortunately, in her current state, she cannot always discern who he is. When in the company of men, there is a chance (50%) that she will mistake one of them as her father (the oldest man, generally). If such is the case, she will confront him. Her face distorts into an evil sneer, showing a mouth filled with sharp teeth. The target of this attack should make a fear check.

If the target runs away, Penelope may either pursue (60% chance) or simply fade away, as her 'father' seems to have dissapeared. If the target stays, the girl ghost attacks. She bites her target in exposed flesh, causing 1d6 points of damage (due to her cause wounds>/i> ability). She has no aging attack, but her bite is cold and may paralyze her victim for 1d6 rounds if he fails a saving throw vs. Paralyzation.

She does not attack other perople present, and never attacks women, unless they attack her first. If the real Godefroy is in the room, she will always target him, even when she has previously attacked someone else. Penelope can make herself invisible, but while in that state, cannot affect the real world.

The girl ghost is immune to non-magical weapons. In addition, while she can be 'destroyed', her ghost reforms the next night, as she is an integral part of Godefroy's curse.

Estelle, Godefroy's wife, has similar abilities, though she also has an aging attack. Unlike Penelope, Estelle knows very well who her target is, and she mostly ignores other people, unless they attack her, or hinder her in tormenting her husband.
