Steaming Lands- Maps (Draft)

The Steaming Lands is a small cluster of domains with a tropical climate.
The domain is made up for the largest part by the Wild lands, an uninhabited area of jungle, savanna, and swamps. It serves to seperate the Indian inspired domain of Sri Raji from the Sea of Saragoss, where stranded sailors lament their doom.

This page contains two maps with different layouts. The right map (layout B) is offered by Loren Soth, and offers a layout that I think is particularly interesting. We are very interested to know which layout you prefer. Note that both maps are drafts and unfinished - when you vote, please vote for the layout, not the style.

Assumptions and Added Details : Map A

I started building map A by using the Wild Lands as a base. I made the assumption that the Wild lands would serve to seperate Saragoss from Sri Raji. Otherwise, the feel of entrapment of Saragoss would be lost. I thus made sure that the two domains would be as wide apart as possible.

The map was adhusted after some comments people send me. Some people asked for an ocean inlet for Sri Raji. I will not add that feature right now. However, if anyone feels like it, I think it would not be so hard to create an inlet south-east of the domain, where the mists are.

Placing Sri Raji was not that hard. Using the elevation charts from the domains, it seemed obvious that Sri Raji would somehow connect to the Wild Lands Plateau. The exact position and angle was more difficult to determine. My choice was based on map orientation and terrain features. As it turned out, this also placed the domain as far away as possible from where I wanted to place Saragoss.

For Saragoss, it was necessary to add a sea to the cluster. I choose to have the sea connect to the marsh where King Croc rules. The reason for this is that I wanted the wild Lands to be as inhospitable as possible. While the sailors may be tempted to try to reach the swampy land, few, if any, will survive there - all will fall to the hunger of King Croc. This would severly temper the will of sailors to venture landinwards. Only the most desperate will do so. All of this would keep Saragoss isolated, and the reluctant inhabitants of the domain would still have little choice but staying on their ships.

Assumptions and Added Details : Map B

The Cluster shape is basically that of the original domain known as the "Wildlands", but several areas have been modified with the additions of Sri Raji and Saragoss.
The western part of the Steaming Lands holds the domain of Sri Raji. The southern part of the Steaming Lands where a great Lake once dwelt has opened and holds the domain of the Saragoss. The rest of the cluster belongs to the domain of the Wildlands, which largely remains unchanged from its original state.

Bahru, the Accursed City has the same elevation as the Wildlands plateau to the east. The domain of Sri Raji declines at a steady rate for several miles to match the elevation of the rest of the Wildlands. The Yahasha Mt. supports three rivers which run through Sri Raji and into the Wildlands.

A branch of the waters of Lake Veda meet up with the Damhum River, whichwill eventually feed the Damhum River and the water of Lake Veda eventually feed into the great swamps of the northern Wildlands. Every evening there is a torrential downpour at sunset, which sends the swells the river lending into the Crocodile swamp.

Saragoss remains a few miles away from the southern coast of the Wildlands. The whole area is populated with various marine life, especially sharks. Those few who make it to shore must contend with the natives of the Wildlands who will hunt and kill them. When Saragoss experinces it's storms, it hits the southern coast of the Wildlands as well.

Keep in mind that these are, right now, just proposal maps for the Steaming Lands (hence, they are quick-drawn drafts). While we strive to stay as close to canon as possible, it would be inappropriate to claim that any of the maps shown here is a canon depiction of the cluster.
