A flash of light skims over Mr. Agale's shoulder, impacting on the desk behind him leaving a scorch mark. Snapping out of his reverie, he jabs his index finger in the direction of the offending lantern. "Section four paragraph 3 of the Darkonian ship builder's code clearly prohibits the use of hazardous light fixtures in a sea going vessel!" As he spoke, the air seemed to crease and fold and a smell of mercury permeated the air. The Borcan then takes the opportunity to unceremoniously dive behind some crates.

Minor Action: Using Distract on the lower light in the Darkon room to give myself combat advantage.

Standard Action: Augment 1 mind thrust at the same lantern. 30 vs will hits for 14 psychic damage and -4 to Will defense until the end of Agale's next turn.

Move Action: Hustling to P23.

His eyes...Tomas feels his insides clench, and stumbles backwards, the attack on his fate hitting...something...in Eisenwald's belly, sparks shoot out of Tomas's mouth and his eyes start to drip tears of gleaming quicksilver, smoke almost seeming to pour out of his ears. Instinct alone causes him to shoulder his shield into place just in time to block the mystic blast follow up from what used to be his friend.

Light burns around Tomas's brow, like the first rays of dawn marking the end of a brutal storm. Wind whips around Eisenwald's face, the smell of salt and ocean water restoring his senses; but the strange fate of Tomas Eisenwald has no time for the manipulations of unholy creatures, and Ivorsen snaps out, shimmering with the barely controlled light of a thunderbolt!

"No!" Tomas exclaims, though he's not sure who he's aiming that at. Regardless, the sword pierces the former Captain's chest, light and heat sizzing through the bizarre hole in reality! Breathing, Tomas looks to his right-

And starts running. "No! Shoot me! Me! Not her!" Tomas demands, stumbling through the pain to swing his glowing sword at the closest mystical turret!

(Standard: Majestic Halo at Celodin. 14+9=23 which hits, 11+5=16 radiant damage, and until the end of the encounter, any enemy adjacent to me is subject to my divine sanction.

Move: Hoof it to G11.

Minor: Divine Challenge at the k12 turret.

Saving Throw: Rolled a 10.)

Kerrian reeled as that which was one Cedolin worked to ensure that this was not what Kerrian would classify as a good day. The wracking pain from the attack even persisted after the original impact, blurring Kerrian's vision somewhat as he sent his spirit aid forward to go toe to toe with their former friend.

As the spiritual Wolf lashed out at Cedolin, its claws tearing into the mockery's flesh, a wave of resurgent energy flooded into Celeste reinvigorating her while at the same time chilling Cedolin, sapping the vigor from his blows.

Still staggered from the blow, Kerrian drew upon the world of spirits to renew himself, though due to imprecise control, some of the energy flooded from his spiritual aid into Celeste the exertion thankfully helping him to shrug off the residual effects of Cedolin's assault.

Move action to move Spirit companion into Melee with Cedolin at V9 and shift me to W11. Then using Spring Renewal Strike. Wis vs Fortitude, 22 which is a hit for 13 damage, and I'm activating a daily item power from my winter's grasp totem, which Weakens Cedolin until the end of my next turn.

Also, as a consequence of my hitting with Spring Renewal Strike, Celeste may spend a healing surge and regain 3 additional HP on top of whatever her Surge value is.

Minor Action to use Healing Spirit on myself, healing 13 hp, and healing 8 additional HP to Celeste.

And end of round, 17 to Save vs Ongoing damage, 20 to save vs Vulnerable Psychic.

And adjacency of spirit companion is maintained with Celeste, giving her +1 Fort, Reflex, and Will

Nicholas had been musing on the possibilities of a draconic epic of unrequited love and despair and only half paying attention to Agale when the searing pain smashed him flat in the back, ringing a shout of anguish from the poets throat.

It wasn't a particularly inspiring shout, in fact it was filled with venom and lots of words that you certainly didn’t use in polite company, but it certainly made Nicholas feel better.

Whipping around, his eyes widen as his assailant turns out to be a glorified fairy light, but a fairy light that had badly burnt him nonetheless. His eyes oddly continue to widen, flickering with a malignant light deep in the irises, a light that grows and reaches out sinuously across the room, reaching hungrily for the source of Nicholas pain. "Soon my love, restitution shall be ours" he hisses in a rough whisper to no-one in particular as he steps forward.

Yet the light flickers and dies once it comes into contact with the purple glow from the turret, leaving Nicholas looking rather confused and disorientated.

OOC:
Minor action Majestic word on self giving a healing surge of 14 + 4 + 4 = 22hp and slide to N23
Move Action – move to N19
Standard Action – misses even with a bloody reroll…. crap

Interest: dissipated. Celeste crumpled against the crates behind, racked with pain, without even the time to scream—even though her wounds healed as soon as they were afflicted, she didn’t appear to realize it, at first. Slowly—slowly, she lifted her head, turning back to look at what had once been Cedolin…
M. Eisenwald wrote:No! Shoot me! Me! Not her!"
“Dear Tomas…oh, noble Tomas, stay your blade!”

Celeste wasn’t afraid, wasn’t angry, just… The look she was giving Cedolin was interested, as before, but overlaid with pity, of all things. Apparently, when Mlle. Viardot was lacerated half to death by a malevolent wraith, her first reaction was to feel sorry for the wraith. Rather than, say, anything resembling self-preservation.

Heaven help her, she even turned to address her comrades, which became progressively easier as more of them ran into the room. This meant that her back was towards the marauding spectre. Terrific.

“Valiant adventurers all…oh, how I applaud your intentions, even as I must abjure your methods! For Captain Cedolin, stout-hearted though he may be, simply cannot be possessed of his proper faculties at present—else his behavior should be of a far more welcoming caliber! And, whether this be a temporary malady or something…oh, dolefully irrevocable… Oh, friends! Surely, if we simply subdue him through the use of non-letha—”

—WHA-BOOM—

It was at this uniquely fortuitous moment that the Archeron’s reserve powder magazine exploded, blowing a twelve-foot crater in the ceiling directly above Cedolin’s unwelcoming head.

Apart from voiding the Archeron’s security deposit and vaporizing a good twenty years’ worth of Pre-Leon Dementlieuse history, this uniquely fortuitous occurrence did pretty much what you would expect half a metric ton of exploding arcane-treated Darkonian gunpowder to do, to wit: slam Cedolin to the deck with the concussive force of a falling harpsichord, temporarily hammer his eardrums into submission, and set him on fire. Very much on fire. In fact, a good deal of the Dementlieuse Exhibition room was now on fire.

As the smoke cleared, you could see Celeste turning around to figure out what just happened five feet from her back, a look of bemused surprise on her face. Celeste, curiously enough, didn’t have a scratch on her.

“I say! Was that supposed to happen?”

For no apparent reason, something that looks awfully like a critical Explosive Strike with a Singing Dagger happens on Cedolin's square, dealing him 25 fire damage and 12 thunder damage, deafening him, knocking him prone, and shoving him one square East to U8. If there were any enemies next to him, they would get fire damage, too, but they aren't. so they don't.

Celeste then moves to AB10, and makes her save against ongoing damage (I messed up the modifier, Neo, but still rolled over a 10). She uses a reroll on her attack roll this turn, though heaven knows why, because she clearly has nothing whatsoever to do with this situation.

Oh: she also gets +1 to her AC (for the round) and I should have said this earlier, but she has Resist 5 against Necrotic damage for the duration of the chapter.

The Archeron, Parnault Bay, Port-a-Lucine; Night of March 24th, 770
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player Actions
Tomas: deals 16 damage to Cedolin and challenges the upper Akiri turret. He makes his save.

Darius: removes 7 damage from Cyrus, and deals 16 damage to lower Kartakass turret.
Lia: deals 10 damage to the upper Akiri turret, bloodying it.
Nicolas: heals himself for 22 HP and misses terribly.
Mr. Agale: does 14 damage to the lower Darkon turret, and gives it -4 penalty to its Will defense
Celeste: explodes Cedolin for 37 damage, deafens him, slides him, and knocks him prone. She makes the save.
Kerrian: takes 5 damage at the start of his turn, then hits Cedolin for 13 damage and weakens him. He then heals Celeste for 15 HP, then he heals himself for 13 HP, and Celeste for another 8 HP. (Busy man.) He makes both saves.
Nerit: In Absentia

Lia wrote:"Richard!" she bellows right afterward, calling out to the Blackwood in the hall. "Get back here! I'm not explaining to your sister why you got killed on my watch!
Cyrus wrote:"Today is the day of the Lion!" Cyrus belted out. If this were a calmer situation, he might have asked Cerise why she was bothered about what the zodiac day was.
"Are you sure? Isn't that in September or something?" Cerise called back, fiddling with her bracer with a furrowed brow. She appeared to be halfway through the process of realizing that oh this wasn't the ancient Hazlani bracer, this was that other Hazlani bracer, you know they look so much alike and she'll forget her own head next, it's pretty funny in retrospect-

"I, I seem to have hemmed myself in..." Richard said quietly, holding his sword in front of him in a terrible mockery of a defensive stance. He didn't sound afraid so much as slightly distressed he was causing someone trouble. Whomever had taught the young man had apparently taught him the basics and left him to train without further guidance, leaving him woefully unprepared for the current situation. He took a few crosswise steps, one foot in front of the other, trying to find some way through the wall of fire in front of him. "I, I think you'd, you'd better shut the door, professor," he finally said.

"Stop it," Cerise said calmly.

Richard looked up at her, and the two lights flanking him suddenly flickered and went out. The young man looked at them, puzzled, before dashing back down the corridor and skidding into the Akiri cargo hold. His sword smashed into one of them along the way, leaving the light to flare angriliy back to life as he ran by, its flames now blood red - but Richard was gone, slamming the door behind him. The young man didn't even have a chance to catch his breath before colliding sword first with the mage-light lamp in front of him, spilling multi-faceted light from its face like a waterfall.

"Erm... remember how I said this stuff spreads?" Cerise asked, gripping Lia closer. The shimmering patterns from the mirror crawled across the floor, surrounding the people inside.

"Maybe this, this wasn't such a good idea," Richard said.

Cerise does something to the two upper hall turrets, hitting them both. She deals 11 damage, regains 10 HP from Richard's Zealous Fervor, and dazes both turrets. She then shifts back into the room.

Richard clonks the upper left turret with Zealous Fervor for nine damage, bloodying it, and anyone who hits the turret before the end of Richard's next turn regains 5 hp. He then runs blazing into the room and shuts the door behind him.

Mage-Light Turrets (Corridor Upper Left) and (Corridor Upper Right) do nothing.
Mage-Light Turret (Akiri Upper) uses Ruinous Burst on Tomas, hits, deals 19 damage. It takes 1 damage from Cloud of Daggers.
Mage-Light Turret (Akiri Lower) uses Psychic Shock on Richard, hits for 9 damage.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Image Image

Mage-Light Turret (Darkonian Upper) uses Ray of Destruction on Agale with cover. It was apparently sufficiently chastised and misses.
Mage-Light Turret (Darkonian Lower) uses Ray of Destruction on Nicolas, misses. This provokes an AoO.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Image Image

Mage-Light Turret (Kartakan Upper) does nothing.
Mage-Light Turret (Kartakan Lower) uses Ray of Destruction on Darius, hits, deals 11 damage. This provokes an AoO.

Cedolin stood up.

The burning hull of the ship was falling around him, the brilliant orange flames casting him in deep shadows. His uniform was almost black, now, and the underlighting of the fire left his face completely dark - save for those glowing yellow eyes. There was no outer reaction, no sign of movement, to warn you of the next attack. Indeed, Celeste felt nothing at all, had not the slightest inkling that anything could have happened. It was only when the spirit hound began to whimper that Celeste realized, rather abruptly, that Kerrian was no longer there.

Kerrian felt his head spinning, disoriented by strange images and sounds. There was a reverberation in his teeth that set his thoughts a-jumble. For a moment, he was back in Verbrek. For a moment, he was human. For a moment, he was back on the floor of the bone cathedral, the black creature's hand through his chest.

And then, he was standing out in the hallway, alone. The turrets on the walls all flared with light, raining destruction down on him until consciousness was gone.

Cedolin stands up and uses Twist of Fate on Kerrian and Celeste. He critically misses Celeste, hits Kerrian. Kerrian is teleported to X15.

Mage-Light Turret (Dementlieuse Upper) uses Ray of Destruction on Celeste, misses.
Mage-Light Turret (Dementlieuse Lower) uses Ray of Destruction on Celeste with cover, hits, deals 15 damage.

Mage-Light Turret (Corridor Center Left) uses Ray of Destruction on Kerrian, misses.
Mage-Light Turret (Corridor Center Right) uses Ray of Destruction on Kerrian, hits for 11 damage.
Mage-Light Turret (Corridor Lower Left) uses Ruinous Burst on Kerrian, hits for 22 damage.
Mage-Light Turret (Corridor Lower Right) uses Ruinous Burst on Kerrian, hits for 18 damage.

"Mr. de Castigne, by the sound of it Mr. Mauganson has run into a spot of trouble" Agale said as he bolted for the door, pulling a small flask out of his attache. "I shall attempt to divert their attention if you would be so good as to attend to him."

Staring down the corridor, he forcefully declared to the lanterns, "Furthermore, the civil code stipulates that impeding a bearer of medical aid is justifiable grounds for immediate dis-assembly!" Once again, the air seemed to fold in on itself with eldritch energies and a feeling of oiliness permeated the corridor.

Move Action: Hustle to M18

Standard Action: Hypnotic Pulse centered on Q15
Attack vs left-hand: 27 vs will
Attack vs right-hand: 26 vs will
8 psychic damage and they are both dazed (save ends)
Using the Orb of Mental Dominion against the one on the right.

"I weary of this," Lia says, her voice slightly strained due to all the noise and sceaming going on. "Per iussu meu, sphaera ignis, incende! Inimicem meum vore!" Again the black staff stabs out, and a ball of roaring flame ignites out of thin air, next to the magical turret already damaged by Lia's two Cloud of Daggers-spells.

For a second, the fire just hangs there. Then its flames turn bright red and it floats over to the turret, howling and roaring as if the lifeless chemical reaction has discovered the concept of anger. Red flames try to engulf the purplish glow and devour it along with its source.

"Please feel free to jump in and add your own attacks," Lia says through clenched teeth, forcing her will into the staff. "I would not wish to keep all the 'fun' for myself." She glances at the other turret, the one she finds herself in uncomfortable proximity to. "Where can we best move to?" she asks of Cerise, her tone urgent. "And please just turn that bracer on, if you can."

(OOC: Lia conjures a Flaming Sphere in square J12, which immediately attacks the turret below it. Attack roll of 24. Damage roll of 11.
Waiting for Cerise's advice as to move action.)

The mage-turret extends a probe of scarlet-green-gold light toward Darius which brushes against his cheek and neck, raising welts of the same uneasy mix of colors as the light. Cursing, Darius launches a counterattack that takes a largish piece out of the mage-turret's brass armature, then gathers his focus and strikes again, hoarfrost growing along the glass of the turret as the temperature drops perceptibly around it.

Growling a final imprecation, Darius leaps toward the door to see what's happening outside....where he finds himself faced with a rather dead-looking Kerrian, tendrils of energy rising from his body. Grabbing the spear-and-coils amulet at his neck, he shouts in clotted Vaasi "LAW IS STRENGTH, WOLFMAN. Now STAND UP!" A surge of divine energy shivers through the comatose shifter, galvanizing him to action.

Attack of opportunity is...oh, great. Now I remember that AoOs are basic attacks and use Strength, not Intelligence. So that's 17 vs. AC, and 15 vs. AC on the re-roll (sigh), so, miss. :(

EDIT FOR NEW INFORMATION:Second re-roll gives a 21, for 9 damage. (5+2+2)

Standard action: Frigid Blade again, attack roll 31, damage 7 plus 6 for 13 damage, plus the immobility, yadda yadda.

NOTE THAT DAMAGE GOES FROM 15 TO 13 on this attack, so 22 total, which I really really hope kills it, cuz now I am going to take the

Move action: Duck under the turret and head for the doorway. Discover Kerrian. Horrors! Stop in X17.

Minor action: Use Healing Word to heal Kerrian, for Healing Surge Value +1 hit points. As I understand it that will put him back on his feet and able to move himself out of trouble.

I'm sorry about the extensive revisions here, NT; if it were not a "man down" situation (or if I had a better grasp of what my character can do!) I wouldn't do it.

"Kerrian!' Tomas exclaims, feeling tugged in four different directions. "Cursed witch-lights!" Apparently the lights took this seriously, because Tomas is blasted square in the chest by one of the turrets. He's kicked in the air like as if a mule struck him, slamming into a priceless bust of Queen Snefru the Lover which has its head knocked off by Tomas's weight and force.

"nnnrg." Tomas can't think of a joke for the situation, which may be the real red flag. He sits up, notices that his shirt has been incinerated, leaving a cracked black breastplate that has bubbling green and red ichors dripping from it. Smoke rises from the collapsed remains of his chest, as Eisenwald stumbles...and somehow manages to stand with a wound that should have killed him. How is he breathing?! "nnnnot...bad..."

Tomas CRACKs his jaw back into place, the action seeming to shake him back into something resembling sanity. Breathing shallowly, Tomas shoulders to the left and down, going back into the weird mirror-hell, having determined that he'll do the most good there.

"Celodin!" Tomas barks, partially transporting through the mirror and managing to be again in four places at once, electricity sparking from his quickly closing wounds. "Would you nip at the heels of children?! Your conduct unmans you!" Tomas twists to the right(Well, for a given amount of right.), slicing at the captain's exposed middle. "Face Eisenwald!"

(Action 1:
Minor: Minor: Lay on Hands on myself, pulling me up to 30 and activating Virtuous Recovery, which gives me Resist all/2. This stacks with my armor's Resist All/1 giving me a grand total of 3 until the start of my next turn.

Move: To K10. This makes Turret p12, Turret u12, and Celodin adjacent to me and subject to my divine sanction. Divine sanction does 6 damage to each target when it makes an attack that does not target me.

Standard: Bolstering Strike at Celodin, 12 damage and gives me 2 more temp hp for a total of 13.

Action Point spent.
Action 2:
Standard: Second Wind, brings me up to 44 and gives me +2 to all defenses for the round.

So all and all I am at 38 hp, have 2 temp hp, Resist All/3, and +2 to defenses.)

"...M. Mauganson!"

Say what you would about Celeste, but distractability worked in her favor on occasion. After puzzling over the unexpected explosion for a few extra seconds, she happened to glance through the door to the hall--and, consequently, seeing rather more unconscious Kerrian than she expected to.

Again, say what you would about her, she was also a surprisingly fast runner. She didn't even seem to notice the perpetual mage-light crossfire that just missed her on three separate occasions, or the fact that Cedolin was still in the room behind her.

Of course, by the time she was in the Kartakan room, Kerrian was on his feet again. This did not stop Celeste from being concerned.

"Oh, M. Mauganson I daresay you have given me a dreadful fright, simply dreadful...do you require additional medical assistance? I have no formal training, but I have brought along an assortment of soothing balms in anticipation of just such an eventuality, and..."

This went on for some time.

Double-moving it to W19.

AoO hits 25 vs. AC for 5 damage (1 dice + 2 Strength + 1 item + 1 Censure of Unity (Darius))

Cyrus whirled around. He sensed the power that came through the strange, shimmering haze. He realized what had happened when Darius was attacked and he knew he had to go in there to exact the Lawgiver's judgment. His form faded away, becoming little more than a shadow that flickered and vanished. He reappeared, but his body took time to reform. Even when he swung his blade, his figure seemed less than solid.

The dommer raised his blade and the metal caught the light, then flared brilliantly. An aura of gleaming silver coalesced around his form and then rippled outward in a thunderous shockwave. Though Cedolin seemed to shrug it off, Cyrus came at him again.

"The Lawgiver's words guide my hand," he uttered his intonation, "My arm is His arm, my blade, His blade." His sword came down hard on Cedolin and the wail of a thousand angry souls erupted from his weapon. The spirits resembled him, cold and fierce warrior-priests that battered the corrupted gendarme and the mage-lights alike. The souls kept them off-guard and opened them up to greater attacks.

Move: Shadow Jaunt to AB20. I become insubstantial until the beginning of my next turn.

Standard: Argent Mantle on Cedolin: Miss, but he still takes 8 radiant and thunder damage. In addition, until the end of the encounter, Cyrus may reroll the damage roll for any avenger attack power he uses.

Action Point

Standard: Nine Souls of Wrath on Cedolin -- Hits for 24 damage.

Until the end of the encounter, any enemy that ends its turn adjacent to me gains vunerablility 5 all until the end of my next turn.

Cyrus likes having allies :)

If I may suggest, now is a good time to start piling on the damage on anything in the cloud. Vulnerability 5 all will add up really, really fast because anything adjacent to Cyrus will take 5 more damage on top of your damage rolls.

It was highly unlikely that Kerrian ever crawled from trench to trench on the battlefields of Falkovnia, but after Darius' aid restored consciousness to him, he could at least lay claim to being able to fake it rather well. Crawling across the corridor to keep down and hopefully out of the angle of fire, Kerrian found himself near Darius.

"Thank you.." Kerrian managed, though still he wasn't exactly getting up to his feet just yet, trying to center himself. Nearly dying was enough to throw anyone off their balance to say the very least. However, apparently it was not off balance enough to keep Kerrian's wits from him entirely, spiritstuff flowing to coalesce into the spirit hound within the bounds of the strange otherworldly aura that seemed to permeate from the mists.

Moments after this, Celeste felt an invigorating rush of energy..and oddly enough, Tomas as well, though not nearly the same invigoration that Celeste received.

OOC:Crawling to X18 as my move action, then summoning spirit companion to V20 as a free action. Minor Action to use Healing Spirit on Celeste, giving her back Surge value+3, and Tomas gets back 1 hp. Standard action is to take second wind, granting me those lovely defense bonuses. Tomas, Celeste, and anyone other ally who manages Adjacency to my spirit companion gains a +1 feat Bonus to Fortitude, Reflex, and Will

Nicholas just looks confused for a moment as if a conmforting presence had left his side, but then shaking his head its back to business.

He grasps the silver skull adornning the pommel of his cane, twisting it slightly and drawing a length of steel for the wood, a length of steel that by all rights shouldnt have fitted into slender wood, but judging by the resoante humm that accomapnies it, it wasnt a normal sword anyway.

Flashing out with one hand he cracks the blade hard into the turret sending a shower of sparks across the room. Then determined to finish the damn thing and provide some kind of sanctuary for everyone he narrows his eyes judging the thing for moemnt before loosing a blow designed to smash it clean off the wall.

OOC:

Minor action draw weapon

AoO - to hit 24 for 9 damage (wahey hit something!)

Standard Action - Guiding Strike on lower turret

- to hit 30 (crit) on 2nd reroll (sigh)
- 8 + 6 + 16 for crit = 30 damage and it takes -2 to will until end of Nicholas next turn

Hopefully thats one tower down in this room, so I'll focus on Cedolin for next turn, but probabley worth staying near the top of the map for healing duties on those guys. Kerrian now he's alive again can handle the bottom half, unless it all goes Pete Tong again...
