Tatyana had dark hair. The confusion comes from the I10 module, the cover of which showed Strahd carrying the body of a blond woman... who happens to be Virginia Weathermay, not Tatyana as many people mistake her.

Also, the novel I, Strahd had a specific Fabian portrait of a woman with light hair embracing Strahd sensuously right at a passage in the book where Strahd talks about Tatyana's portrait. Other areas show Strahd menacing a woman with light hair who is recoiling from him in horror, also with enough contextual details to suggest she is Tatyana.

These are probably more a case of the artist following the "blonde damsel in distress" tropes, rather than any actual parsing of the lines. I personally like to think of her as a black-haired woman - it goes against type and provides a refreshing change from the usual ditzy blonde.

IIRC her current incarnation is a pretty redhead.

I always leaned toward the russet-tressed Tatyana as well. It would stand to reason that she stood out so tremendously from the Barovian rabble, making her beauty that much more noticeable to both von Zarovich brothers. She would have been a stark contrast to the unwashed masses. Despite compelling arguments regarding the fair-haired maiden, I think in this instance it is specifically effective.

Now I'm off to watch the Ginger Kids episode of South Park with my carrot-topped wife....

I, Strahd says her hair was "copper colored", and the latest incarnation is indeed a redhead. (Tara Kolyana). But Anna, her reincarnation from VoTM is described as "dark haired" and I can't find Ireena Kolyana's hair color in I6 or HoS, but in EtCR, it's dark in her picture. (the pic from I6/HoS is grayscale, so it could be almost any color). I, Strahd II doesn't seem to mention the hair color of Marina or Alina, but Strahd sees the exact "face and form" of Tatyana in them.

My preference is to make them all redheads, perhaps of varying shades.

A slight re-imagining of Elena Faith-Hold, since it seems the earlier link in this thread is sadly broken.

Do I need to make a powers check for this thread necro?

If I might be permitted to add my pinch to the purse (Mordent humour at it's worst, I know), I must say that reading 'I, Strahd' has made me believe that it may be more interesting to depict the various incarnations of Tatyana as resembling one another only upon very close inspection, if at all - I think it adds an extra ounce of chill to Strahd's pursuit of his 'Great Love' if the reader is never quite certain that the women with whom he keeps throwing away all reason in pursuit of ARE genuine reincarnations of her spirit or if they are simply women unlucky to catch The Count's Eye at the breaking point in his psyche's strange manic-depressive cycle, then still more unlucky to fall completely under his power to dominate the minds of others.

Not least because it throws that disgraceful scene in 'I Strahd' where he effectively says to Miss Marina "No, you are not your own person, you are MY Tatyana" into it's proper light and Count Strahd's personality along with it; don't let this particular domineering monster fool you into thinking he's a gentleman suitor.

I would also argue that there's something appropriate in the idea that while 'Tatyana' changes throughout the ages according to the experiences she enjoys (or fails to), as well as the times and places in which she finds herself Strahd remains trapped like a fly in amber himself, forever caught in that dreadful interval between the murder of his youngest brother and the point where Tatyana herself refused his rather unsolicited, throughly inappropriate advances, then was lost to him forever.

It's my opinion that no matter who Strahd Von Zarovich sees in the latest incarnation of 'Tatyana' they should all be their own woman, individual to themselves and no more identical than any sisters who meet a similar misfortune.

No this thread deserves to rear it's head regularly. The chibi links go out of business after some time. To reactivate them you only need to click them, then click on edit and resave the avatar. Unfortunately the embeded link needs to be updated too for it to work, so some of us regularly go through this thread and edit our posts...

Isn't Banemaw supposed to be a red wyrm? Or was black the only color dragon the site has?

It was the only one I found, but by the time I got around to looking for a dragon, my eyes were simultaneously crossing and glazing over from the dizzying array of choices for every other piece of the chibi model.

Does anyone else have hard copies of these? I managed to find mine, but unfortunately, the site's gone so we can't make any new ones and it would be a shame if we didn't still have all of these to look at.

Well, since I made most of them, I still had them all saved on my computer. Here's a link to an imgur folder with all of them. Cheers.
