How Gothic is your Ravenloft?

Fairy tales are cool. I think they can mesh well with a Gothic/Romantic Ravenloft.

I agree; I am basing my falkovinia off a mix of gothic tales and fairy tales. My Falkovinia takes a lot of influence from the concept of Pan's Labyrinth for example.

That's a glorious example, yes. I'm also thinking of watching Inglourious Basterds because I hear that movie has a similarly memorable villain.

Other wartime "muddy morality" movies that I think fit Falkovnia very well include Hotel Rwanda, Blood Diamond, and The Beast (or The Beast of War). Several Chinese Imperial-epic genre movies also show the pattern of rebel leader turned righteous emperor turned corrupt despot. Any of these could make the Falkovnian leadership more than just villainous, unilaterally bad people.

In Poland we have some problems when we try to explains ghotic themes
First: in slavic folklore many monsters known for western people arent tru evil. Wherewolws and ghost are quiet neutral damed creatures. Also i slavic cauntries never exist wichthunt and witch are more wise woman's than monsters. Our vampires are Ghoul or wraith like (polish word upiór/wraith and wampir/vampire are sometimes symonymous) creatures,
Most castles in Poland are postgerman. Polish noble prefer to live in vilage mansions, than in stone construktions. Also many of them are fortreses owned by Crown
And when on the West poets write thrill stories about ghosts, ouer prefer to tell about fighting against dividetors.
And one important thing. Ravenloft is practically unknown in Poland, because adnd los rovalizatin with Warhammer.
