Since the players in the party did not indicate that they were taking a route to avoid were they had seen some rather large spiders in the tree's that were staked out to catch some dinner that walks under were the spiders were the last time .
Most of the party see's the spiders, except in this case the scout(Sara) of the party until to late to disengage the spider that are just looking for a meal on two or fours legs as it were .

So the following members of the party can roll initiative checks to warn the Sara about the spiders in the trees above her: Zilfer,The Professor are the only members of the party to spot the Spiders in the trees .

(Going off memory here from work i'll double check the addition but I know Arnulf has a greater Dex than Str)

Actually Dex is much higher with a +5 on Init checks .

Init is 12 for Arnulf and 17 Roll for the professor .

The spiders get is only an 8

So you both can take actions before the waiting spiders get to move or attack . Sara is a head of the party almost right under the spiders by the way .

Well Do, If i find a moment to check the sheet you sent me to my Email here at work I'll get a post up. I just need to check to see if Arnulf has a ranged weapon, if so that dex is going to be killer!

Talking is a free action on your turn by the way a long as the talking is not overly long that is . A Warning will allow the warned to roll an initiative check to see if they can react in time in this case .

You rolled a nat One Zilfer in D20 and various other versions of D&D that is an auto miss no matter what bonuses to hit .
. And I usually describe how you hit as I know if your character is going to hit or not .

Oh I did not see a damage bonus added to that roll and a barbarian can go into his rage as a free action on there turn . If you wanted to you could before Arnulf attacked, but it would not matter in this case for the damage and HP Bonus from increased Con .
