The elf-maid with the burned face and slashed mouth groans as Foerde grabs her chin.
Blood leaks from the corners of her mouth.
She coughs, spraying a fine mist of blood onto Foerde's forearm.

Gatt says,
"I think this one is about to die."

OOC Note: there are two elf women. One with a burned face and scorched hair, and the other who had worn the domed helmet.

FILBERT, RETURN TO THE KITCHEN

ewancummins wrote:FILBERT, OUTSIDE THE HOUSE OF THE MASTERS

Having exited the stone and timber building and climbed up the wall to the kitchen window.

Peering through the thin gaps in the slats, he sees shadows and light playing in the kitchen, but cannot tell what's going on.

Just then, something rattles and thuds from beyond the shutters. It sounds like a commotion deeper into the kitchen. Again the rattling and thudding, and this time he hears wood cracking.

Filbert takes out his tools and jimmies the latch open. He stuffs the tools back in his bag, pulls open the shutters, and crawls through...

Sticking his head and shoulders through the small window, Filbert sees Lord Runcible across the kitchen, standing in front of the oven. Ugo lies on top of the oven lengthwise, stiff and still.

A shuddering thud echoes through the kitchen. The closed door between the kitchen and the hall shakes in its frame, sending pots and pans tumbling from the heap of objects piled against it.
Another loud impact from the far side.
The panel cracks.

Filbert drops into the room, running at Lord Runcible’s back with his short sword held out point first.

The fat ghul steps away from the oven just as Filbert closes. Filbert nearly tumbles into the open oven. The Halfling reels back from the bed of glowing embers, hot air blowing in his face.

Runcible grabs Filbert by the collar and pushes him into the oven.
But Filbert wedges his sword in the iron door over the oven, which hangs open on his right, and grabs at the stone lip of the opening with his free hand.
Thus braced, the Halfling pushes against Runcible with all the desperate force his small body can muster.

Runcible, gray and horrible without his mask, leans in close and grimaces at Filbert as he struggles to force the Halfling onto the hot coals.

The kitchen door thuds for a third time. Wood splinters. Furniture and pots clatter to the floor.

Runcible pushes harder. Sparks fly from the open grate as Filbert's sword blade grinds along the wrought iron.
Filbert smells burning clothes-- his own.
He heaves with everything he has left.

Runcible slides back, arms flailing.

Filbert drops. The ghul master kicks him, trips, staggers-- and pitches straight into the oven as Devlin slams into his back.

The Duke pushes the fat ghul deeper into the oven, grabbing him by his kicking legs and shoving.

Runcible shrieks, trapped with his head and shoulders inside the hot compartment.

Devlin lets go, lunges to the right and grabs the cage that had been Filbert's prison. He lifts it with a grunt and wheels in a half-circle, slamming the cage sideways into Runcible's legs.

The wooden part of the cage cracks. Devlin shoves with the iron frame, forcing Runcible all the way into the oven.

Filbert sees Devlin's face turn red, and then purple.

The iron bars rattle as Devlin strains to keep the Master trapped in the hot oven.

The stench of burning fat fills the kitchen.
Delight is to him- a far, far upward, and inward delight- who against the proud gods and commodores of this earth, ever stands forth his own inexorable self.

UGO

The first seconds of the mess are surreal for Ugo. He's not sure he hasn't lost his mind, or that he's not in a way dead and into the afterlife. He hears commotion, he feels the oven rocking, he hears Master Runcible screaming. And he's still not burning.

As paralysis starts to wear off, he sees a too-big holding the cage over the oven and Filbert fumbling in the kitchen. He doesn't understand at first what's really happening. Why is the too-big holding the cage and straining? Why the oven trembles? Who is in the oven...
and then he realizes what happens.

Jumping down from his place Ugo, screams "Let go of my master!" and rushes towards the shelves! Pointing frantically at the pitch used to light the fire, the cooking oil, the grease the butter. He's jumping up and down, trying to pass flammables to Filbert as fast as possible as he continues his charade.
He cracks a bowl as he does so. "I'll kill thee! I'll save thee, Master!" He screams as he starts passing them flammables. Greased towels first, oil etc.

Ugo's in automatic mode. He acts fast, he acts decisive but his brain is numb and his heart is cold. A Master is in the oven and Ugo's the one passing the flammables. Too-bigs are cooking the Masters instead of being the meals.
The world turned upside down.
Ugo doesn't dwell on what his hands and legs help doing or he would double over with nausea. He can't be sure that this whole experience is actually real.

As he slams his back on the cage along with the too-big, shouting that he'll help his Master, as he betrays him, he half-expects to wake up to the Masters shouting for breakfast.

THE KITCHEN FIGHT

Filbert hurls grease, rags, and thing that will burn into the oven through the cage bars.

The fire grows hotter and hotter.

Runcible screams louder and louder.

Gunnar-giant sticks his pudgy right arm and shoulder through the kitchen door and starts shoving, straining on the door jamb as he tries to break through a portal too small for his transformed body.

The cage groans.

Devlin staggers backwards, still holding the iron frame.

Runcible bursts from the now-unobtructed oven mouth, splattered in hot grease, pouring smoke from his open mouth, his clothes burning.
An ear-piercing scream rises from the fat ghul lord as he rushes straight for Devlin.

Gunnar, unable to fit through the door, hurls iron pots and chunks of the busted door at Runcible.

Devlin and Runcible wrestle over the cage.

The ghoul gets round the bars and swipes at Devlin. the Duke freezes in his steps, a shocked expression fixed on his face.

Filbert jumps between the ghoul lord and his friend, his liege, splashing holy water--and spilling most of it on himself.

Runcible's fat, sooty belly shakes as he laughs.
''HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHA!"

Filbert hears a man screaming.

Not Devlin.

Not himself.

Father Michael.

The priest drops through the window and staggers forward, pale, shaking, but alive. He holds up his holy symbol.
''GET AWAY FROM THEM!"

"Father Michaled you are alive!!!"

Filbert's happiness doesn't last long though when he see the Master resists the cleric's command. Getting barely a second to think the odds he grabs the paralyzed Duke and drags him to Gunnar so the giant can protect him.

Filbert hears Father Michael scream in pain.
He sees the cleric fall to the floor as Runcible begins eating him...

Gunnar reaches over Devlin, straining to the full length of his arm and grabbing at Lord Runcible's back.

The ghoul whirls round, clawing and snapping. Gunnar seizes him by one arm and drags him back through the kitchen door.

Gunnar drags Runcible halfway down the hall.
Runcible struggles can't squeeze out of Gunnar's locked fist.

Filbert splashes the monster with the last of the holy water.

Gunnar's hand turns steely gray and begins shrinking.
The rest of the transformed fighter also begins shrinking back to normal size.

Ugo, looking from the window feels his jaw dropping. The giant too-big can turn to a regular too-big. The magick-lady can turn to mist. Is there no end to the wonders those people can bring?

Cormac snatches a burning log from the fire and steps cautiously out into the dark to go try and fetch the horses. He nods to Ned and Hob, gesturing for them to follow at a distance. "We lose the horses an' this blizzard keeps on, we won't need Elfs to kill us off. The cold'll do it for 'em."

He steps as cautiously out into the night as he can, handaxe in one hand and torch in the other, following the trail of the horses through the snow.
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

SEEKERS

Renn does as Roald suggests, binding the elf whom he'd held at sword point. He then relieves the knifey of all weapons and useful gear.

"Sevet, Gatt, strip the dead. Seize anything that looks useful and won't weigh us down too much."

FIGHT AGAINST LORD RUNCIBLE

VIEW CONTENT:
Invisible, Safana hangs near her fallen comrades, guarding them as best she may.
Gunnar, now returned to human form, lifts his sword to strike down the Master.

But Runcible moves faster than the man, leaping back and turning to run for the cellar stairs.

Gunnar clanks after him, moving at a brisk trot in field plate. The ghoul hurries down the stairs with Gunnar's blade cutting the air at his back, and vanishes into the gloom...

Filbert looks at the cellar door where the Master just fled then looks back at the paralyzed duke and the almost dead Father Michael.

"I don't think it's wise to go after him right now. We cannot see in the dark and he can very well hide and attack us one by one and paralyze us. Here we are altogether and we can look after each other. I think it's better wait till His Grace and Father Michael fight the paralysis, get the chest we came here for and leave as soon as possible before he returns."

The Seekers

Foerde chants a prayer of healing for the elf woman on her deathbed. Standing he look from one to the other, "Tomorrow we will talk more. For now, you and her will rest." He says them.

"The one who wear the domed helmet rides with me tomorrow. No ruffing up captives while we sleep." He says to the others as he walks back to the spot he was sleeping at.

Gunnar agree's by nodding his head . Thinking it wise at the least to wait for his companions to shake off their paralysis at the least before tracking this last ghoul down and putting him down for good, . Since we will need him dead before the party can search for the object that Maeve wanted without interference from him while doing so .
