Filbert looks up at Termelan, the smile has disappeared from his face.

"I understand that you are foreigner but if I may ask where do you come from and you haven't met or heard any of my race before? I'm not a goblin, I'm a halfling that's why we were so different... it's like calling you a dwarf. Anyway yesterday at the Riverside district happened a fuss, someone falls down and begins kicking in the muddy road, another falls and also begins jerking and flailing about and a young woman in the crowd of spectators begins to dance madly about. She screams and falls down. Filbert describes them as better as he can and then realizes that he has said to Domenica that this happened in the inn but actually was outside even if people were drinking beer."

Turning to Domenica says:

"I'm sorry things have happened so fast yesterday that I told you the story wrong, the fuss was outside, at the Riverside district. And now that I'm actually thinking about it maybe this was just a provocation act against Alamiens, but seemed pretty real to me. We need to ask if indeed there were these people poisoned.I'm sorry again."
To her credit, Domenica keeps a straight face, but seethes a little inwardly as she exhales under her breath. GIMP gives her an incredulous regard, surprised.

"That is fine. I have heard rumors about bad ale for the simple matter that the workers are not working, they are dancing and partying. This needs to be remedied and fast. I believe I can help with that department. Now, I overheard those men saying that bag is full of food for the children. Is there not work enough for everyone around here to pay for food for their children I am as of yet unaware of? Those six men over there, I could use men like then for work and would pay them well."

She pauses, continuing "What do you remember about the riot yesterday Termelan? Any piece of information is important to me no matter how insignificant it may appear to you."

While awaiting his reply she orders a meal for the four of them.

Termelan, Filbert, Domenica
Termelan apologizes to Filbert. "I apologize of the insult, sir. I also admit I have never seen a dwarf before coming here. But from all this bad business with my ignorant mistake, at least there's one morsel of good... You asked me about my place. I'll answer you shortly, but I shouldn't leave a lady waiting for a reply"
Turning to Domenica, Termelan says apologetically "I have no information about a poisoning or even spoiled beer from this place; the quality is what can be expected but the patrons keep a tidy place; they wouldn't serve spoiled beer. And no, I don't blame Alamiens for any incidents, far from it.
From the riots that happened yesterday, if indeed there was trickery involved I would think it was agitators from Tuornen. I'll tell you about it"

He clears his throat and talks in a clear voice that soon takes color and tone as Termelan recounts last night's riots. He doesn't speak loud enough to interrupt people's discussions but certainly loud enough to be heard by anyone interested. And he plans to make it interesting.

"Along with a knight in shiny plate armor, sir Gunnar, and madam Safana, a striking foreign sorceress sheathed in mystery and arcane power which she carries with as much grace and confidence as sir Gunnar carries his armor and well-used sword, we managed to stop and capture some rough types with hoods that partook in the riots.
While sir Gunnar, a one-man-army, was defending crying orphans and widows in the docks of the icy river, using expertise and skill against a dozen or so such ruffians. The knight tirelessly defended the weak and his Grace's the duke's laws as he was stroke down half a dozen of them. The thugs scattered in front of the knight like sparrows in the path of a charging warhorse. They were routed and the refugees of the docks saved. We captured a couple as they were fleeing Sir Gunnar's just wrath.

Madam Safana stopped them in their tracks with a simple spell as they were gathering like vultures over a carcass on a poor defenseless woman set upon taking her honor. I saw fire in the sorceress' eyes as she let just a trickle of her mystical power take over the minds of these thugs. Only the presence of the innocent woman in their midst seems to have stopped madam Safana from incinerating them in fires conjured out of her arcane fury.
Not wanting to waste the opportunity, I took the chance and used my own arcane powers -I've picked up a spell or two during my travels- to bring magical slumber on them. When they were tied, under the threat of a knife in their throats they admitted a rich man gave them the hoods and told them to start up trouble. The ruffians claimed that dozens of such low-life, river pirates, street toughs, highway men etc took up the hood.

Concerned, Lady Safana and I returned to the docks. Sir Gunnar had already brought order among the terrified refugees when we returned there. Some of the good people in this tavern may have been in the mad dash for the boats over the icy river and may recall the fear, desperation and confusion that followed the cowards' attack. And yet, the fast and clear thinking of Sir Gunnar prevented any more misfortune as he calmed the people like a father calms his children after a bad night's dream.
We brought the unfortunate people out of the docks, to an empty warehouse where they would be safe. The ruffians didn't dare to attack us there and when the morning sun graced the earth, the watch found us all sound and safe inside it."

Dropping the pretence of speaking to Domenica instead of giving another performance, Termelan fished a gold coin from his pouch. He held it between his index and middle fingers as he raised his hand to make it gleam.
"We found this in the possession of the thugs" he said with a loud voice to the gathered people.
"We got from them this gold coin. It is blessed with the joyful tears of a mother that saw her son safe thanks to Madam Safana and Sir Gunnar. As it was paid to the lowlife in order to bring you despair, I think it's just, it's fitting that I spend it here to bring you a little measure of joy in these troubled times."
He addresses the waitress loudly "I want to buy a round of beer for all the good people in this tavern. I am sure the heroes of last night, Lady Safana and Sir Gunnar would approve." And then, with a flourish, he sent the gold piece spinning on the palm of his hand before he passed it to the waitress.
"Remember good people of Riverside. There are people in the service of his Grace, the duke, that would defend you, that would fight for you an that would bleed for you.
Can I have a cheer for Lady Safana and Sir Gunnar? This beer is on them!" He closed his speech.

As the disturbance settles Termelan moves closer to Domenica and whispers "The instigator had a hood on and they didn't see his face but he was described to me as tall and thin, articulate as a noble and carrying a sword. My Lady, the ruffians said the watch has been paid off to look away for the night and that the instigator was local. Sir Gunnar is investigating. I thought I better say that to you in order to not feed suspicion over last night's events."
Then, he smiled again. "I hope I didn't bore you with my story; you asked both for information and a story... I hope delivered both to your satisfaction."

Safana being nearby may have heard Termelan's accounting of the events she has took part in as he was describing dazzling swordplay, powerful magic, exotic beauties, shining knights, mysterious villains and nameless minions with the fate of hundreds of defenseless people at stake.
He certainly wasn't saying them in a low voice.

VIEW CONTENT:
TL;DR: Termelan gave a colorful and a bit creative accounting of yesterday's events and in the end bought beer for everyone. As he asked for the crowd to cheer sir Gunnar and Safana, taking little credit for his own part in yesterday's events, he used the distraction to drop a few extra more sensitive information to Domenica

"Don't mind if I do," Renn replies to Roald's offer, and jumps into the second cart. Once in, he wastes no time. "Sevet, Gatt, get us going then get the hell in!"

Termelan, Filbert and Domenica

Domenica nods in satisfaction. "Another very nice tale, Termelan. I am so pleased that, in honor of you giving everyone an ale," she stands and looks around "A hot meal for everyone! Courtesy of Barilia and Associates! Any of you hard working men need a good paying job, come see me at my table," Her eyes stop at the six men and she nods, especially the ones with the food sack.

Termelan smiles and whispers to her "I've already bought a meal for them earlier madam, but more doesn't hurt."

The Hostel in Riverside

Termelan's romantic retelling of last night's events draws respectable applause, a bit of laughter, and some ragged cheers. The free beer, now, that gets people on their feet. They cheer Termelan as much as the absent Gunnar.
"Beer!"

Domenica's announcement earns her toasts from men across in the tavern. Many rush the tavern counter to get their free meals straightaway, but a smaller set skips getting the meals just now, and forms a queue at her table. Maybe twenty men, most of them looking to be so where between fifteen and forty years old, all seemingly able bodied. All dressed in common, rough clothing.

Over at the bar, the publican seems to be running out of food fast! Men and women jostle each other, shouting to be served first.

Gimp takes a piece of paper and a little bit of charcoal from his coat. He writes or draws something on it and takes the note to the publican, slipping around the press and walking behind the bar as if he worked here.

Domenica is still dealing with the press of eager job seekers when her servant returns and sits down beside her.

Termelan, Domenica, Filbert

Termelan smiling allows people to come to Domenica to seek job. As the line of job seekers forms, he whispers to Filbert "Would you like to stay here mr Filbert, or should we move to the side and have a discussion. I haven't forgot you asked me about my homeland... "

The Mine

The party pushes and cranks the carts forward. At first the wheels squeal and the gears catch, but clumps of rust fall away and the carts pick up speed.

But not enough speed to clear the distance to the far tunnel in safety, Crashing into the fight that has spilled onto the tracks, the party runs a gauntlet of orog claws. Reese screams as an orog grabs him. He shoots point blank, sinking a bolt into the monster's face. The first cart rocks up on one side, almost flipping clean off the track, but Roald and Boarhort drive it through the press like a siege ram.
The second cart moves slower. An orog snatches Renn right out of his seat!

Sevett and Gatt yank their weapons and go after their lord and captain.

The mine, cont.

It all happens so fast, a scene of bloody madness lit by Cormac's torch, which rolls about on the floor, kicked from one combatant to the next. Arrows cut through the air. Bodies slam and part with wet sounds, like ghastly rutting. The demon swine squeal.
Elves shrill their war cries, bronze swords arcing out and down as the Fair Folk fight in a tight circle.
Renn clambers back in the cart with help from his men and from Roald.

Somehow you all make it out together, plunging headlong into the darkness of the far tunnel, sparks flying from the wheels of the screaming, shaking carts.

The vehicles pick up speed quickly. In order to avoid being left behind, the runners have to jump or climb into the open compartments.

On you all roll, into darkness, into the unexplored further reaches of the dwarf delve....
Delight is to him- a far, far upward, and inward delight- who against the proud gods and commodores of this earth, ever stands forth his own inexorable self.

The Mine Cart and the Bard,

The Bard begins humming a merry tune as the carts roll down the tracks into darkness. While she does, she begins twist and move around in the small cramped space, moments later those in the cart can hear her rifling through her pack. "Ah, there we are!" She says briefly interrupting her humming.

With a thud, her pack drops to the ground. A few sparks fly from in the cart, and a moment later she is holding a lit torch in one of her hands. "Much better, me thinks."

She goes back to humming...
History prefers legends to men. It prefers nobility to brutality, soaring speeches to quiet deeds. History remembers the battle and forgets the blood. What ever history remembers of me if it remembers me at all, it shall only be the fraction of the truth.

Domenica

She learns that the six men she found interesting, the ones at the bar, already have a master. They serve a knight named Gunnar. One of them tells Dominica that if she wants to hire them for exciting work, not shoving crates around, she should talk with their boss.
They state a clear intent to remain here, waiting for the knight to return.

But a good number of other job seekers will happily depart the tavern and go with Domenica right now, pausing only to grab their free meals. And some don't even wait for the food, if she seems ready to depart straightaway.

Rennault coughs a sputtering thanks to his men as they help him back into the cart. Despite his attempts at a calm exterior, The Captain is visibly shaken. He'd never felt his own mortality so keenly, not even when he'd dueled the villain who'd kidnapped his sister, even though he'd probably been closer to death on that day. But he tries to shake off that feeling and set his teeth against the darkness.

"Cormac," he says as he nocks another arrow with shaky hands, "got any spells that'll light this cart up?"

The druid shakes his head. "No, tha's why I'm holdin' this thing." He gestures to the torch.

"This is goin' from bad to worse, an' we've no way o' knowin' where this cart will end up. An' I have a feelin' there's more o' those Orogs waitin' down here than we got away from up there. I was hopin' those mine devils could get us outta these tunnels, but so much fer tha'."

He shrugs. "Nae sure we're gettin' outta this one..." he mutters. And then snorts in irritation at the bard, "But at least we have music!"
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

The seating shifts under Cormac. Something pointed and hard catches and squeezes his groin!

Looking down, the Druid sees a mine-devil cowering in the bottom of the cart. He's sitting on the little monster. The creature whines. It removes its clawed hand from Cormac's hope of future progeny.
In pidgin Elvish, it says
"Sorry Foo...err...StrongAxe. I hide. Smart!"

Cormac grumbles and bites back a sharp retort. "Yah, yer a genius," he says, pointing in the direction of the tunnel, "Any idea where we're headed?"
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."
