If she grew up in a town with no spell casting clerics, maybe she thinks stories of magical healing and such are a bit exaggerated.
As a first level character, she is not all that experienced, so she may be ignorant of some things.
A good possibility. Vannie and I can decide about that together as we are family after all ;)

Ditto good possibility indeed, we could have come from a town without clerics and strong beliefs. Maybe we can believe that deities and divine magic is a legend but not going clearly against them and say openly that we don't believe in gods. At least Tom will be for sure curious to learn more about them if he has the opportunity.

That makes sense.

The people would still have a religion, of course. But it might be a domestic thing, the business of each family, with rituals performed by the father.
If your father and mother died while you were young and you grew up on the streets, you may never have learned the rites.

The dialogue...LOL.

But yeah, while looking for " thunder god" images online, I can across this FF stuff.

It would work well for an aspect of The Speaker in Storm.

So... who's the God that protect travelers, adventurers, etc? And who is the God associated with good luck and who with battle and combat?
Those will be the top 3 my character respects and honors. The God that makes sure the dead remain dead and in their a happy-place or bad-place follows.

Numerous possibilities exist among the various minor deities.

Note that, while minor deities may be less powerful (according to theologians) they tend to be somewhat more active in the world.

Among the nine major deities listed in that previous post:

Travelers wishing a swift journey and people fleeing from peril often call upon the Fleet Maiden.
Minor deities also cover various aspects of travel and escape.

Any god might grant ''good luck.'' That is, what seems like random chance may actually be the hand of a god.
Paraphrasing a physicist:
The gods do indeed play dice with the cosmos, and sometimes they throw the dice where they cannot be seen. :azalin:
A person who has just experienced an unexpected stroke of good fortune might consult with priests and oracles to determine which god to make an offering to.
Likewise, unexpected bad fortune might be taken as a sign that a god has become cross with one. Time to figure out why and make an offering.
Not everyone thinks this way, but it is fairly common response to extreme good or bad luck.

There are no doubt minor gods associated with risky endeavors of various kinds, gambling, and so on. Feel free to create one.

Of the major deities, the one most often associated with battle and combat is the Winged Victrix. She is sort of like Nike and Athena, if you wish to use Greek examples. Nike was the image source, natch. She helps the righteous win just wars.
But even villains may think they are on the right side...

A tyrant crushing rebels might choose to sacrifice to The Brutal Master.
And desperate or hate-filled rebels might dare to call upon the Flame of Anarchy.

As ever, numerous minor war and battle type gods can be found.

In this setting, there is room for overlapping portfolios, as in many real world mythological systems that involve multiple gods and multiple cultures.

The Green Corpse is a death god. He is also a life god. A bit of Osiris, but also Hades, Vertumnus, and other deities associated with death, the underworld, soil, vegetation, etc. Some aspects of him are very much about the dead staying dead. Not all aspects.

At the risk of repeating myself too much, this is another case where a minor deity could also fit in.

I do not know the artist's name, but this could be The Winged Victrix.

local depictions and aspects

If you PC has the local history or religion NWPs, he can get immediate access to this info with a simple success on a d20 check.
VIEW CONTENT:
THE BLIND JUDGE
In Povero, this god is always shown as a male figure. Robed and bewigged after the style of a magistrate, and eyeless--not blindfolded. A cherub and an imp accompany him, sometimes shown whispering in his ears or perched on his shoulders.
more to come with edits..

Other cultural notes:

This is AD&D, not Anthropology: The Term Papering .
That said, some quick and dirty details on customs, hierarchies, laws, social expectations and such may be helpful.

I will describe some stuff fairly common in the region that includes Povero, without getting deeply into customs particular to Povero that your outsider PCs may not know about.

Bastards: lower status than trueborn, but may be legitimated

Carrying weapons and wearing armor: allowed or restricted as determined by local law and custom; best to check.

Duels: may be legal or illegal, depending on the local laws. It is usually two men fighting over a matter of honor. A gentleman is not required to personally fight some ruffian from the lower orders. He can have his servants beat that scoundrel.

Female fighters: rare but not unheard of.

Marriage: monogamous. Divorce is rare and difficult. The dowry must be returned under normal circumstances. Elopement of adult parties is dodgy but not usually illegal. The concept of romantic love has become popular in literature and song, but arranged marriages remain the rule.

Slavery: Used mainly a punishment for crimes. Pirates may kidnap people to (illegally) enslave.

Spellcasting: spells that control minds, inflict serious bodily harm, destroy property, or disturb the dead may be criminalized, or only allowed under certain conditions. Black necromancy and conjuring demons is pretty much illegal in most places. Divination about politically sensitive matters may bring unwelcome official attention…

Thieves’ guilds: Such guilds do exist, but gangs, secret societies, and crime families would all be just as likely as a guild model.
