Re: P N Elrod
I like that! We can say that Count's men went to Tom and asked him about the coins and to find Damien but Tom didn't rat him out since he is a fellow thief and a good guy. Note: I haven't decided Tom's alignment yet, but still he wouldn't have betrayed a friend.
Also Tom believes that he is good in his job but he isn't that good lol, he just wants to become a famous detective (he doesn't know his stats lol!)

Yeah, I don't think Damien's an amazing thief either with his stats but he's OK. XD Yeah that works, I think I made Damien's CG which I think is the "robin hood" alignment? Eh we'll see. xDVAN wrote:I like that! We can say that Count's men went to Tom and asked him about the coins and to find Damien but Tom didn't rat him out since he is a fellow thief and a good guy. That sounds good.
We will see how the PCs played by Varrus, Alhoon, and Adam connect with the thieves.

Given the relative lack of muscle in the party, does anyone object to me allowing JMatyr to join as a seventh player?
We would definitely cap it at seven, so that we don't end up with a bloated, slow game.

Re: P N Elrod
IF you guys decide there is room for a seventh player (I am fine with it, given the make up of the existing party) , JMatyr has dibs. He posted here asking to join.
If it works out that way, then he'll need stats.
I will roll a couple of sets to speed things up.
The rule about replacing one score with an 11 remains an option for him to use.

[dice]1[/dice]
[dice]2[/dice]
[dice]3[/dice]
[dice]4[/dice]
[dice]5[/dice]
Set number one
STR 8
DEX 17
CON 11
INT 10
WIS 11
CHR 8
Not bad. With one of the lower scores bumped up to 11 it is a nice set. Basically an average guy but with a very, very high dexterity score. Another thief?
Missile weapon fighter?
Illusionist with average INT? ( I seem to recall it is just the DEX that has to be high).
EDIT A gnome illusionist could get a 12 INT out of this set.
Set number two coming up...
Str
[dice]6[/dice]
Dex
[dice]7[/dice]
Con
[dice]8[/dice]
Int
[dice]9[/dice]
Wis
[dice]10[/dice]
Chr

That... sounds interesting. Care to elaborate a bit more? Also, haven't played an elf for quite some time.ewancummins wrote: A third possibility would be to play a demihuman. That could give him some unusual abilities. Gnomes for example, can spend a slot to be able to communicate with burrowing mammals. Not limited by times per day.
I warn you that I'll probably default to human but I would like to explore my options here.

Ok, since we've a thieves guild in the making, my character, human, elf (2nd choice) or anything else would be muscle for one (or both) of the thieves. He was there when the count kicked these two scoundrel out.VAN wrote:I like that! Re: P N Elrod
150 gp.
Gnome fighter (hilarious but that's it), Filderbrook "boomstick" Tazeloff.
His father, part of a gnome ghetto "nearby", had a long history with the grandfather of one of the human thieves (to be determined). Once it was Fild's time to complete the "family tradition" of Tazeloffs (traveling, learning, collecting experiences for at least 2 years or until you make a significant impact) he directed him to find ... the to-be-determined thief.
Fild is chaotic good-ish. He wouldn't mind stealing but not from people that really need it. He doesn't mind kicking out a few kneecaps (at 1 meter high, you don't bang heads) but he's not a bully.
That kind of thing.

Re: P N Elrod
Sounds fun.
Boom stick
Gnome with an arquebus? That would be pretty great. It' ll look like a cannon on a shooting stick, for sure.
Note that gnomes do not suffer a STR penalty in this edition. Despite being small, the average gnome can carry as much as the average man.
Arquebus is a size M weapon, meaning a gnome can employ it if he uses both hands. No one handed shooting. Not that you'd want to shoot it that way, anyway.
A shooting stick or a hook on the barrel would be good for steady shooting. True for a human, too.
Rooted in the earth!

Re: P N Elrod
Ignore the super high arquebus price in the PHB. I think I wrote about this earlier. A proficient fighter character can start with ONE arquebus at 75 gp cost, comparable the the expensive sort of longbows, heavy crossbows, etc.

Re: P N Elrod
House rule for the sleep spell.
----
Victims get saving throws at a -4 penalty.
But even if they make the save, they will be drowsy (taking a -1 penalty to to hit rolls and a + 1 penalty to initiative) for a period equal to the duration of the spell. The drowsy period follows the sleep period for those who fail the save.
And even if they are wakened from the magical slumber before the sleep effect wears off , they will still suffer drowsiness for a period equal to the full duration of the spell.
A creature with more than 4 HD is immune to the primary effect of sleep spell as usual, but could suffer the drowsiness effect for the duration of the standard spell effect. Saves at no penalty to avoid drowsiness.
This makes the spell less of an easy way to murder people. On the other hand, its effects last longer. Great for getaways. And it is actually useful against higher level critters and foes, though not at all reliable against such.
Thoughts?
This will prevent NPC first level wizards from TPKing your party. But it will also prevent you guys from TPKing a bunch of dudes with a single spell.

Re: P N Elrod
All things considered... this is no 3 ed. A 1st lvl wizard doesn't have catrips to rely on. Sleep is there (I think) so that the wizard that would sit around looking at his nails or throwing rocks for 5 out of 6 encounters, to do a "Kavooom" and end encounter 6 all by himself. Remember that wizards have literally 3 things to do in a whole dungeon when they're 3rd lvl. A 1st lvl wizard has -one- thing to do. And then it's throwing rocks with ThAC0 20.
HOWEVER... this is no 3 ed. Saving against spells with a -4 is near impossible at 4HD or less and makes the spell useful for longer.

Tom has 15 STR and a sword, when he has money he can get a shield and can fight in melee as well with backstab he will deal cool damage. He also has a bow so can stay back and use this one.
As about alignment I'm not sure he qualifies for CG...practically what he does is eavesdropping and then sell info at the higher bidder or get paid to find or follow others. He is good with friends bad with the rest!
So our party will have 4 thieves, a fighter, a wizard and a cleric? Not bad at all
