Re: Anyone interested trying "Death House" (5e) as PbP?
Everyone: WotC released a NEW background for Curse of Strahd season (which DHouse is the intro). You may take it if you want.

Looks like you got a good pool of characters. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out since I plan to unleash this on my group here in the coming months as well.Ken of Ghastria wrote:Do you have room for another player? While I've been involved in the Adventurers League content, I know squat about Death House.

For those wondering about the situation, think early 80 years war against the monarchy at the time of the resurge of the Dutch Republic in 1590s.

Re: Anyone interested trying "Death House" (5e) as PbP?
OK, I'm making a human LN paladin. Here's the roll:
https://rolz.org/info?X8435329
That's 14, 13, 12, 13, 14, 14 ... wow, completely middle of the road. All will increase by 1 because I'm human. The three highest will go to Str, Con, and Cha. So final stats:
Str 15
Dex 14
Con 15
Int 13
Wis 14
Cha 15
And I will take the Haunted One background since it's been offered.
Vorj Makker is a young man who, as a child, was possessed by a demon. It was exorcised after a grueling ritual... or so his family thought. Vorj knew that it was still inside him -- quiescent, perhaps, but still very much there. His family and childhood friends became estranged, as though they, too, knew the evil that lurked with Vorj's soul, waiting to strike.
He fled from his homeland, seeking to master his emotions -- and the demon -- in solitude. His one source of comfort was a book of poetry that he opened whenever his spirit tilted toward despair. Tentatively rejoining society, he sought a religious path, believing -- hoping -- that faith could keep the demon imprisoned. Senior members of the church noted Vorj's determination and unusual drive to vanquish evil, and so he received instruction as a paladin.
He is likely sympathetic to the king, but he's not beholden to him. His loyalty is to the church.
I can flesh it out and send you a detailed character sheet over the weekend. How does he sound so far?

Re: Anyone interested trying "Death House" (5e) as PbP?
Couple more things about Van:
Van grew up in a rather rich family that owned a big farm outside the main town. His father was known as not great King's fun and thus one day with the excuse that want to build a new road royalists came to the farm and told them to leave. When Van's father Jonathan opposed they took him aside killed him, claimed their farm and forced them to move without almost nothing. Since then Van hates the King and his loyals. His anger and frustration burnt inside him for long time inspiring him to get proper training as a fighter so one day he can get revenge. In order to get money he escorts caravans and works as mercenary if needed. When the rebelion started he joins it and since he knows very well the surroundings around the city he often volunteered to do sabotage or scout ahead and inform their squads if it's safe to pass.
Van always admired wizards and Bhunder's pointy hat with stars and cloaks got his attention. He tries to know the gnome better and found out he is crafty, very intelligent and made things burn and then blow up! Which he finds it amusing and deep down hopes one day they will make together a bomb he can use against the King and the royalists. Even if they treat him like guinea pig Van considers Bhuder and Gorrik his friends and tries to help them and the gnome community in general as he can.
When he heard that a caravan full of refugees was about to leave the town he joined it to escort them in safety.

Re: Anyone interested trying "Death House" (5e) as PbP?
Whatever you like; it's enough for a starting point as far as factions in the background world go.Ken of Ghastria wrote:I can flesh it out and send you a detailed character sheet over the weekend. How does he sound so far?
However I would like a bit more, if possible, about that demon, what you have on mind about its agendas etc. And know that it's Ravenloft. If you GO that way, it WILL leave a taint his soul forever. And by a taint I mean that you'll be considered unclean by the DPowers and deities and all.
I don't mind it at all, but know what you choose for your character. I know it doesn't seem fair to us to be judged evil by something that was beyond your control, but that's the morals of the world we're playing in. I.e. if your char dies without a BIG act of redemption, he's doomed to hell.*
* Note though, that this isn't Victorian era! It's Ravenloft. Killing bad things leads to redemption in a way. So, I would say Vorj's path to a better afterlife goes through many many dead evil things. Cause evil spreads evil etc.
Weeeeeell... there's no "state religion" but a LN church that would employ paladins would be aligned to the king (Think Helm), not seek to protect people from the mighty and weapon-holders as a LG church would (Think Heironeous).Ken of Ghastria wrote:He is likely sympathetic to the king, but he's not beholden to him. BUT... you could be a LN paladin of a LG religion if you want to not be seen as a "lacket to king's cleric lackeys" or you could actually be a member of a militant order that protects the king's "divine right" to rule. With swords.

Re: Anyone interested trying "Death House" (5e) as PbP?
It's a bit more complicated than that for Van sis. He was ... told to escort the caravan as protection. And the rebellion rarely puts its best people to protect refugees, especially before a battle like the one that's coming. So he assumes he's protecting something else of value.VAN wrote:When he heard that a caravan full of refugees was about to leave the town he joined it to escort them in safety.

As a note, the paladin is a captive along with 3-4 others that are expected to be ransomed.

Good job!
I already have yours and Van's.
I need one from Ewan and Ken and we're all done.

Well... we could accommodate another one I think. Are you familiar with 5e?

Good!
Make a character, tell us a few words about him/her and send me a character sheet as soon as possible.
