Let us come up with some new ideas for dread toys made by Guiseppe. These are made with 3.5 in mind for myself.
1. Rubbery toy that emits a Stinking Cloud (Caster Level 5) centered on the user. If gloves are not worn when handling, a Fortitude save (DC 10) is needed to avoid a temporary Int toxin (1D6/1D6). Stronger variants of this toy emit a Cloudkill (Caster Level 10) and require a higher Fort save when handling to avoid the toxin (DC 15)
2. Wooden doll head mounted on wheels, screams and causes a Sonic Orb (Caster level 7) to shoot at nearest PC. Activated by placing it on the ground or other flat surface (it cannot climb) and giving it a push.
3. Toy weapon and cape that possess the wearer if a successful Will save is not made (DC 15). If the Will save is successful the wearer may remove the items. If not successful the possessed character attacks any nearby PC. The weapon deals damage normally for its type and is also has a Flaming enchantment. The cape acts as a Cloak of Protection +4.
4. Soft clay doll (Tiny Size) that can be easily torn apart, a PC who tears off a chunk must make a Fortitude save (DC 20) or suffer 10D6 damage. No damage on successful save.
5. Cursed Instrument set that if activated (by playing with it) acts as an inverse of Inspire Courage as used by a Bard of 8th level and causes a -2 to all of the things Inspire Courage would normally boost. The effect lasts for five rounds.
6. Small (Diminutive) wooden figurine that looks like a zombie missing most of its flesh, has a weak bite attack that deals 1 point of damage and unless a successful Fortitude save is made (DC 7) inflicts a poison that deals 1 point of damage each round until a successful save is made or the poison is cured.
7. Giant (Large Size) plush that can grapple and suffocate characters. It can turn Huge in size three times a day to grapple even better.
8. Tiny (Fine Size) rubbery toy that can suck up poison and spit it out (Range 60 feet), similar to the Dread Ceramic Figurine, but the toy can only spit out poisons. Activated by squeezing it and putting some poison in front of it.
9. Large Sized (Large Size) blob of colorful clay, never dries out but will attempt to smash and crush anyone who gets nearby (2D12 Slam attack). Can be mistaken for an Ooze, but is actually a Construct.
10. Small (Tiny Size) play oven made out of metal, shoots out a Ray of Fire (As Ray of Frost but Fire damage). Activated by flipping a switch.
All of the above Dread Toys (Except the clay doll, instrument set, and toy sword and cloak) have a 5 percent chance to turn on their users. This is a flat chance and does not accumulate the more the toy is used. I hope to add more later.
Dreadcrafted Toy Ideas
Re: Dreadcrafted Toy Ideas
Vague idea but what about one of those Zoetrope toys, like the galloping horse, but it 'summons' the image via Shadow Conjuration?

Any craft by Guiseppe should be totally harmless to kids.
Re: Dreadcrafted Toy Ideas
Another idea I had is to have Guiseppe not be the only one who makes Dread Toys. I imagine they could just accidentally (or even purposefully) be made anytime a toy is made. Or even start out as a normal toy and then become a Dread Toy through dark desires.Mistmaster wrote: Fri Sep 12, 2025 7:34 am Any craft by Guiseppe should be totally harmless to kids.

Still I think they should be harmless for kids.

It is adult adventurers who are going to be running into these things.

Exactly. Thatis what I means.
Re: Dreadcrafted Toy Ideas
11. Tiny doll that will bite anyone who tries to hold it for 1D8 damage. A DC 20 Reflex save is needed to avoid this. These dolls are sometimes mistaken for Doll Golems, but they lack the Doll Golems ability to induce deadly laughter.
12. Fine sized toy horses (10 to a set) that run under people's feet. A DC 30 Balance check is needed to avoid falling prone. Activated by throwing the toy horses to the ground. They will seek the nearest person to topple over.
13. Grotesque fine sized wooden head painted in garish colors that opens via a latch to reveal a small wooden figurine of a boy inside. The head can cast the spell Fear at will. Activated by placing the head on the ground and it will cast its Fear spell at the closest person nearby.
