Unfortunately I've recently moved very far away from my group and only get to play when I'm back in Pennsylvania. Everytime I meet possible players they turn out to be freaky. I'm sure there's perfectly normal players out there, in fact I would gladly do "the weekend in hell" thing.

I advise you not to get too hung up on CRs and power levels. As long as you make sure that there's something for every player to do, you should be fine.

That said, though, if you use recurring enemies (heh) then it's quite reasonable for them to concentrate on the big bald one that punched all their zombies apart last time.

Concentrate with finger of death spells (damn your evil influence, BG2 closet liches!), illusions... whatever they need to do to get that mul out of the way.

BTW: I have all the Dark Sun core books from the first ed onwards, so if you need any of the abso-frickin-lutely terrifying undead to use as the mul's nemesis, I can probably sling you one - one of my personal favourites is the Athasian Wraith.
