If his musket is loaded by now, Jamethon will fire it at the demon.

Blaise has wandered, dazed and fearful, through the blackened forest for what has seemed like hours, crouching every few minutes to hide from the cackling, hell-spawned creatures that fly overhead. "What shadow-cursed world is this?" he mutters. "Do you know?" But if his question is directed at a companion, unseen or otherwise, no answer is heard. "I thought as much." he grumbles, trying to hold back a wave of panic.

But suddenly he hears new sounds: a fiery burst, mocking laughter, excited voices -- people! -- and a strange explosion. Gunfire? He's heard the fire of smokepowder weapons before, and sometimes on the receiving end. Moving quickly ahead, he can make out through the stinging smoke the shapes of several figures, some of whom are fighting one of the demons!

And if they die, I may never find out where I am, he thinks, so subtlety be damned, like everything else in this forest. Thrusting his arms forward, he releases a bolt of green-and-red energy from his fingertips at the wounded demon!

OOC: Ranged touch attack: 16 = 10(d20) + 3(BAB) + 3(Dex)
Eldritch blast damage: 11 (2d6)
I'm using Precise Shot, but I'm assuming I'm not close enough to take advantage of Point Blank Shot (and yes, VAN, I approve of your sig. 8) )

OOC: Anyone who turns to look at where the blast came from will see a young man with red hair, wearing dark green and brown clothes, like those that a scout or ranger might typically wear. That's pretty much it at the moment, considering the amount of smoke around.

Great Sword

Post by steveflam »

Brethana picks up her Great Sword and charges the startled Demon swinging her sword as hard as she can at the Demon, trying to slice it in half from one side of the waist to the other, all the time yelling at the demon"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!"

As Inovidil sees the bolt making some damage to the demon, a smile of hope appears at her face.

Fallenleaf has apparently given up on the magical approach; there are so many people around that his ability to throw lightning would probably kill more of the party than the demon would.

Scimitar in hand, he steps forward and attacks, cutting at the demon's wings and legs in quick succession.

The multiple attacks are seemingly to much for the demon, who, out of balance, it hit down by Moorkroft's shot and then hacked into pieces by George, Brethana, and the returning Fallenleaf...

[You can hold your spell, if you like. Ther weill be enough battles to come soon...]

Once it is dead, the demon desintegrates into smoking ash, burning the ground beneath it and blazing the last few leaves of brown grass...

Around you, the forest burns high into the scorged sky, and you can hear the evil chuckles of the fire spirits...

OOC Thank you for that. I have edited my post.

IC> Inovidil barely manages to hold herself from casting the spell from the scroll. When the demon desintigrates puts the scroll back in her scrollcase and addresses the newcomer:

"Your help was very precious, thank you. I'm Inovidil."

Then she turns to the others:

"Are you all ok? Any ideas to put down the fire?"

Stunned to see that the Demon has actually been defeated, George replies to Inovidil: "I am George. As for the fire, it seems to be the work of evil fire creatures, perhaps the Ezran priest can banish them."

''Holy lady, if it is your will, let these fire demons be cast into the Uttermost Darkness that lies beyond the Mists. '' Moorkroft is kneeling beside young Arlington, praying fervently.

Brethana breathes a sigh of relief to see the demon dead, she replies"I know not how to put out the fire, but we should get out of here quickly lest we die from the smoking forest"....

OOC: A couple of questions about the fire--how long will it be before the fire reaches the party at the current rate? Does the fire surround the party, or do they have a direction in which they can run? Also, how many people are present? And finally--the forest is already severely damaged, with few trees having any chance of surviving the fire, correct?

IC: As the demon falls Fallenleaf drops his scimitar at his feet and begins to chant, turning to the four points of the compass and raising his hands to the sky. As he speaks the wind begins to pick up, rising from a steady breeze to a shrieking windstorm and pressing the fire back.*

*Control winds raised to the "windstorm" level (51-70 mph steady winds). As I read it, the demons need to make Fortitude saves (DC 21) every round or be forced to land, and spell resistance doesn't apply. :lucas: If the fire is advancing in a line, he'll set it up to oppose the fire's current direction of movement; if its advancing from all sides he'll use the "downdraft" option, with the PCs in the 80 foot eye of the windstorm.

Shana shifts a little nervously away from Fallenleaf, and glances at the newcomer.

"Nice timing! I don't suppose you can destroy fires?"

"Not exactly, no," Fallenleaf says shortly, looking up at the sky while bending to pick up his scimitar, which he sheathes at his back. "I can pray for rain, but it will take several minutes without interruptions to call up a change in the weather, and at least a quarter-hour before anything useful happens. We had better get moving."

Too late to react and ashamed of his lack of valor, Jarryd sits and cries. He did not prove he is the leader his family wants him to be.

''Your will be done Lady, and not mine'' says Jamethon. Then he stands and reaches over to the boy. ''We must continue now, the castle is ahead of us. ''
