William sits in silence with a puzzled look on his face, unaware how some people could know so much about the core an not fear it. With the tales he has heard tell of walking corpses, spiteful fairie folk, and evil vistani curses, why would they prefer land travel over the sea?
A moment later he recieves his drink from the barmaid to which he changes the course of his thoughts to what may lay ahead for him and his companions as they will most likely be braving deep darkened woods and tresspassing the lands of countless other unspeakable horrors. The blood drains from his face for a moment or two before he downs his glass of rum in one giant gulp!

Tarlyn absorbs what the company is saying so far. He had never been with so many people before! Lowering his voice again he speaks. "I won't sugar coat our mission or what we may and may not encounter. As for me I am of my own free will. I won't get into the why's but let's just say I ahve a lot to attone for in my life and I am slowly learning to accept Ezra into my life. It will be a long process but I deem it a much better choice than the Spider Queen bitch Llolth!" He smiles then continues.
"Once we get to Kartakass, I left a few things there that may come in handy for us there. Though I do not cast any spells I am very talented with these", he says. He opens his cloak slightly and those of you looking will see 2 very intricate and elaborate scabbard hilts on each of his hips. I am very good/i] with my hands and I have a few tricks up my sleeves as well as a few other surprises." He leans back and smiles.
Looking over each of the company, he grins. "I think we will do masterfully in our assigned task! Nothing like a little travel and adventure to get the juices flowing I always say!"

Valerian claps the elf on the back, quite hard. "Excellent! Nothing is better then one who comes to the light from the darkness! You must do Ezra proud!"
Despite his hearty manner, the Warden looked carefully at the elf. Drow, the name came to him, or dark elf. As foul and dark members of the Legions of the Night as ever existed. And yet, Tarlyn didn't seem to be aught but what he appeared to be, a convert to Our Lady in the Mists. Still, Valerian would keep an eye on the dark elf.
Valerian twitched his cassock aside, revealing a rather workman-like longsword, and armor beneath the cassock. "I think, Friend Tarlyn, that between the two of us we can keep the Legions of Night at bay while our wizardly friends work their wonders."
Valerian drew the sword, holding it up to the light. It had a greyish tinge, unusual for a sword. "Cold iron, to cleave the flesh of the fey creatures of Kartakass." He sheathed it again.
"I would advise those of us who use blade and bow to see about getting cold iron. For all that Ezra is with us, it does not pay to be foolish about our business."
"As for the journey, I purpose we travel by ship to Egertus, then Kantora, Bergovitsa, Barovia, and finally Kartakass. It shall save us much time, and keep Friend Draven from feeling altogether ill at ease upon the waves. And mayhaps Our Lady in the Mists wills us do some good in her name in the Land of Iron."

"Hey lads, I donwanna come offa like yella bellied coward..."William slurs as the rum courses through his blood stream, "But it shounds to me like yer all lookin for a fight once we get to Kartakas." He frowns and glares as to emphasize his statement. "Discretion is the key. Bravado will get you killed." He slaps an open hand on the table to give emphasis to his words, cuasing the table to shake and sending the dead rat tumbling to the floor.
"-hic- Scuse me..."
"-hic- Scuse me..."
"I think that will be all for you this evening, William. Thank the heavens you didn't drink any rotgut! That even curdles a Dwarf's stomach, friend Cornelius." Tarlyn looks to Valerian and removes first the blade from his right hip. Holding it up in the light the unmistakable blue grey gleam of enchantment shone even in their dimly lit corner. Winking at the Cleric he puts it away and removes an exact duplicate blade from his left hip. This one glows even brighter and one patron near the door involuntarily hisses at Tarlyn. She rises from her seat and flees the tavern.
The blades are unlike any you have ever seen before.
"I know not if I do Ezra proud, but am on the right path to redemption I believe. That woman will not bother us, I have seen her many times and she is a pawn in another's plans. As for our travel itinerary, I agree with both Lucius and Valerius. I can procure us some Nova Vassan mounts, the best in the land and we can be there in 2 weeks time. Alexander, this way we won't travel by sea."
Tarlyn appears to be thinking a moment then adds. "Listen I hardly feel secure in us speaking in the open here." He looks to William then continues. "It is not the most reputable establishment in Nevuchar Springs. We can go to a safe-house if you all wish. We will be safe there and I can assure you we will be able to speak freely. What say you all?" Tarlyn's eyes were not on them, but on the patrons in the tavern whom seemed to be paying more attention than they should have to their conversation since he had enterred.
He looked to each and every member of the company then around the tavern. Slightly shaking his head no he looks to the door and nods.

Cornelius spoke,
''I concur with the Warden. We need a fast route. Trekking overland the whole way would likely take too long.
We should be ready for a fight. The way won't be safe. Egertus is a rough town and Kartakass is known for it's unusually vicious wolves.
Indeed, stories tell that Kartakass is home to singing wolves who walk as men. They are able to lull a traveller to sleep with their damnable lullabies- whereupon they fall on him and devour his flesh to the bones. The beasts are said to be devilishly hard to kill. Of course, that may just be an old wives tale. I'd keep it in mind, nonetheless.''
The dwarf then returned to his mutton stew, eating somewhat noisily. He ordered another pint of cider, his fourth since the conference had begun. He showed no sign of inebriation whatsoever.

Delight is to him- a far, far upward, and inward delight- who against the proud gods and commodores of this earth, ever stands forth his own inexorable self.

In Dwarvish, Cornelius replied to Tarlyn,
''Oh yes. My family is rather prominent among our people here in Darkon. There are plenty of dwarves here in this kingdom- it's not common to see us further south, though. ''

"It is an honour for me to meet a Dwarf here. And I get to practice my Dwarvish tongue as well. Let us not be any more rude and return to the normal tongue. Perhaps some time you may show invite me to your home." Tarlyn sips his ale then looks around the table to the others.
"I wouldn't mind leaving this establishment, guys. Not just the walls have ears if you get my meaning"

Valerian nodded and rose. "Aye, tis a good idea. Shall we remove ourselves to the Last Redoubt? I can promise that if the Fortress of Ezra is not safe, then no place is."

Van has said nothing after Tarlyn said the word"Spider Queen". The wizard has studied very much in his lifetime and is sure that in one of his Religion books he has encountered that name.
Getting the picture of the half spider half woman again to his mind, Van instictivelly moves his hand to his speellpouch as recalled the paragraph beneath the picture. Tarlyn is a drow! How he gets here? And most of all is he alone?
Van remembered that he has read that dark elves use to be evil. Tarlyn said that he has turned to Ezra and has much to atone, but what if all that is a lie? What if other dark elves wait them behind the inn and attack them?
Van has to do something, he doesn't want to offend their guide, but on the other hand he doesn't want happen anything to him or to his companions.
Pretending to put the chairs back to table, in order to get some more time he sends a talepathic message to his hawk familiar.
"Ace, I want your eyes my friend. Please check if to the way to the Temple are any elves with dark skin. Pay attention though, they must be hiden."
Then without any hurry gets his staff and follows the others.

- The first 2 Feats a wizard should take are "point blank shot" and "Precise shot"!
- W H A T ! ? !
- Or they should NEVER memorize rays!

Reality seems to be spinning for Draven.
Firstly the mention of L.. no he cant even think the name of that place, then the dreaded prospect of sea travel, then the swarthy elf starts ranting about some kind of spider bitch, and finally people start pulling weird weapons that glow....
He's jerked back to the here and now by the mention of the temple of Ezra, and the movement of many of those around the table. Well at least I appear to have fallen in with some knowledgable people, maybe I can use that to my advantage. He quietly stands and follows Tarlyn and Grane out of the door.
The hit of the fresh air reminds him full force of the feeling in his stomach, away from the light and bustle of the tavern he feels apprehensive. There's something he needs to do first.
He lingers outside the tavern door until all the party have emerged and falls into step behind Van making an effort to keep to the shadows.
