For the past few days, though, the gunsmith had seemed to withdraw into himself; moving stiffly if at all, speaking only when spoken to. Often, while on the road, he'd simply sit in the back corner of the cart for hours on end, staring distractedly off into the middle distance. Drawing, then holstering his (thankfully unloaded) pistol one time after another; the hand motions getting quicker and quicker, almost a blur. Perhaps the events in Barovia had finally started to sink in...

Otto poked his head out of the frontmost cart, watching the proceedings intently--a bit surprising, as he'd barely shown any interest in the goings-on of his fellow expedition members as of late. For about a week after the party had left Ravnika, he'd seemed to regain some of his usual cheeriness, underscored by an eager curiosity in his newfound abilities: boisterously dictating the newly discovered mental processes underlying divine magic to anyone willing to take notes, gleefully talking shop with every caster in the caravan--and you're pretty sure you'd seen him engaged in a heated discussion with a spruce tree on at least one occasion. (Speak with Plants = good times.

"Let's just give them a wide berth; if you're wearing a hat you should take it off," Charles comments to anyone within earshot. "Respectful, but not too interested. I don't know what other signs of respect we might appropiately show; I didn't attend too many Rashemi funerals while I lived here."

"I hope you will not require me to remove my ... coverings," Lia replies quietly, then clucks her tongue at her horse. "Let us try not to speak while we pass," she suggests before, indeed, going quiet and stearing her cart well around the funeral. She takes an unobtrusive peek out of the corner of her eye at it, however.
(Spot check: 6. -_- I kinda dislike the irony server dice. Oh well, Lia sees nothign special, if a Spot check is required.)

"Actually, the whole Heathen issue is going to get REALLY interesting once we hit Phiraz." Andre offered "In a way, their church is almost similar to that of the Lawgiver, at least with how strict it is. But some of the mysticism that's only apparent once you've scratched the surface is utterly fascinating." He smiled, and checked his saddlebag to see how Pumpkin was doing.
"A literal transcendence via ritual purity. Made even more interesting by their chief prophet of the current age being very much alive." Andre shrugged "Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Kuzan...do be careful here. The lawgiver's faith can be...difficult." He said, with a sour look on his face, quieting as he saw the funeral procession.

Khalil pulls his horse up to the others. "Indeed, faith is a bar of iron in this land, I have seen the work of the lawgiver first hand." he says in a low whisper.

"And actually, Sri Raji is as close to Henotheisim as one can come. Henotheisim assumes that there are multiple gods, all worthy of praise. Here..we're all more strange monolatrists, meaning that while we acknowledge the existence of multiple divinities, we tend to assume that our personal choice is the only divinity worthy of worship. And the Sri Raji pantheon, depending on where you are in the Vedas, is closer to kathenotheism, with different supreme gods at different times."
He smiled a bit "And just think, usually, you'd have to pay for graduate level courses to hear me babble like this." He then went back to watching the funeral.

"Er, right," Charles says, gesturing broadly in the direction of the professor. "What he said. Don't mind me, I'm a mathematician and a worshipper of pure reason. Usually. I don't know what that makes me..."yalenusveler wrote:"And actually, Sri Raji is as close to Henotheisim as one can come. Here..we're all more strange monolatrists. "A Deist. One who determines the existence and nature of the divine via personal experience and reason. It's not so much a faith, as a framework one structures faith upon. The Dementlieuese sect of the church of Ezra is rather Deist, in some regards." Andre offered, glad to be talking about something in his element, so to speak.Nathan of the FoS wrote: "Er, right," Charles says, gesturing broadly in the direction of the professor. "What he said. "Well, there you have it," Charles says, grinning. "I knew I was philosophically self-consistent, but I'm glad to have it confirmed by an expert. After all, the cryptographer and the would-be discerner of the Grand Scheme are, at bottom, trying to decipher the patterns that will reveal the structure underlying apparent chaos."yalenusveler wrote:"The Dementlieuese sect of the church of Ezra is rather Deist, in some regards." "Exactly. I suppose I'm a Deist, but my views are a bit...extreme. It gets into archetype theory, and suggesting that the dividers between the arcane and divine aren't quite so thin." He smiled a bit "Professor Dihqani said I was a heretic for it, and that I was lucky that the Confessors didn't attend my lecture. Of course, he also called me a genius, so I take it as a compliment." He grinned broadly "I may attempt to invent a deity one day, just to see if it can be done."

"Right.... dead people, why does this fail to surprise me? Still, not our dead people." Samael asked irreverently, nudging his horse around the crowd. "Come on, Basler's estate is only about a half hour down the road on a horse, let's go."
You had gone about halfway down the street when suddenly, a woman in ragged clothing burst from the door of one of the shabby huts along the street, wailing and weeping in grief. Her hair was lopsided, as though a lock of hair had recently been shorn, and she threw herself into the road, moaning in Vaasi.
[Vaasi]
"Mehmun.... please, come back.... I won't ever again.... please... Mehmun...." The woman prostrated herself in the dirt road as another Rashemani came quickly outside.
"Come, come, Salime, it will be better, he is gone, and we shall get those accursed child-thieves." The man took the woman into his arms. "Mehmun will be avenged."
He looked up at the crowd. "Many pardons, good-sirs..." He spoke in excruciatingly formal Mordentish. "But she is newly childless, and it grieves her. Pray, do not take offense."

Andre blinked, this getting his attention. He slipped into Vaasi. [Vaasi]"No offense is taken, and you have my deepest of sympathies, but..Child thieves?" Andre asked, curiosity and compassion slipping into his voice in equal measure as he continued his questioning. [Vaasi]"Is Mehmun the only child to have gone so..or?"

"Not at all," Charles replies. "Iron justice for you and yours." Having given the formulaic blessing, he nudges his horse forward with his knees, preparing to pass the grieving couple by.
