The dark lord was writer in the same vain as the Grimm brothers or Hans christen Anderson. Now trapped in a land of fairytales.
He was a brilliant writer but not a good storyteller. He struggled to find an audience, as he was a vary jaded and pessimistic on life. He had trouble connecting to his audience, he also had a rather shallow imagination.
He found success when stole others ideas, a dream of a butcher had become a short story that sort of thing. But the big beak was when he went to a different country, it was less developed then his own, most could not read, but they had a strong oral tradition of storytelling. He spent a year collecting the stories then went back home. He edited and changed the stores making them his own, thare was no “happily ever after” he made them more “realistic” (removing hope). The book was a success, people loved the story book, everyone was telling his stories.
But he found out why they called them “fairytales”, they belong to fay.
Long ago the someone struck a bargain with the fay kings and queens, they gave to them stories, morality plays and fables so they may stop praying on the humans. They agreed, and the fay lived in the story’s, they learned from them, taking on the role (like an actor) of characters, they lived the role. It is unclear if the bargainer knew what they offered the fay, or if they knew how it would affect the fay to learn the human condition.
Our writer found out fay do not like thieves (they feel he stole from them)and they hate his change of the story's. The fay can be creative in punishment, and discuss it loudly, he hears it all. He was in trouble and had no clever escape, but the dark powers offered him a way out with what he built, he foolishly agreed (he was never as smart as he believed).
In this domain his stolen stories live and keep happening, they play out as he rewrote them often with a cruel twist ending and suffering on the innocent. How horrible is it to find yourself trapped in a fate that has been written a hundred times before.
Our dark lord finds himself in a land foreign(it’s like whare the stores come from) and a hundred years out of date.

Removing happy endings should have costed him to be cast in the Mist the moment he did it, Faes or not Faes. That said a more apt punishment would be as he actually preferred the bad ending versions to be trapped in a kingdom where the original tales are true and where he tries to tell the bad versions and he is given bardic magic an powers to try and make hos version true but soon or later the true, happy ending story prevales, ovten thanks to adventurers.

Suggestion:
I think retellings of famous human fairytales are a well-trodden ground.
So as for the actual fairytales the domain mimics, I'd rather having either less familliar stories (like, stuff that doesn't have a Disney movie yet), or - better - ones made up by us, in attempt to imagine the kind of fairytales fairies would tell.

I understand that, and more obscure tales are welcome.TheArcaneWeirdo wrote: Thu Aug 20, 2026 7:33 pm Suggestion:

I can’t get out of my head, the hero a exiled prince go face the villain there uncle, uncle is relieved to see him, he is so tired of this struggle, telling him all the important paperwork ,says he looks well and throws himself out a window.

Idea for a story, its like beauty and the beast, a man promised one of his daughters to a ogre in exchange for his life, she has to live with the ogre, she finds it not as bad as she feared. Her host in mannered and polite even kind, his home is beautiful with all manner of luxury and amazing features. They grow to care for each other, the ogre realizing she misses her family vary much, he lets her visit them with a chest of riches but she must promise to come back in three days. She makes the promise, but her family makes her break it, she hurry’s back to find him dying of a broken heart. She begs his forgiveness and confess her love. He is restored, and find out the truth about him. Our beast was always an ogre, that was not his curse, his curse was to change his mind and heart to be like a human. It made him outsider to his own kind and his appearance kept him from humans. The struggle was literally killing him, he was lonely longing for someone to share the beauty of life with. That was the original tail.
The dark lord changed it so the girl gets eaten for braking her promise or something just as awful and depressing
Re: Grimm land: a land of dark Fary tails
Thinking about the dark lord, they have power as an author that what they write becomes real, there stories happen but not always as written, thare are differences and sometimes his writings change. It drives him nuts trying to understand, sometimes he feels almost as if he is possessed only seeing the stories after(he is not, the dark powers just give him ideas). he lives in a small cottage in the woods, rather isolated as the culture of the land is not his own, and the land has a medieval society making him feel like he’s back in time. He fears to write himself in to a story, giving himself wealth and power as the narrative can twist on him. (His writing is almost like raising a child, he has influence but ultimately no control)
I like to think even with a narrative fate and people fulfilling stories, there is choice, and some fight the story and the part they are assigned.

That’s a bit close to Lemot Sedaim Juste, darklord of Scenea.
