Epic Level Game Underway

Post by DeepShadow of FoS »

For those of you who missed it, a discussion of epic-level gaming in RL several months back inspired me to prove that it could be done, and with the help of some great volunteers, the Reckonings epic-level RL gamehas seen a lot of progress!

It's a little slow going because of the limitations to online gaming, but the PC's are finally in RL and are beginning to deal with the changes to their epic powers.

I'm in need of a few more vict--er...volunteers, to help continue this experiment. Two of the players have dropped out, and so there is room for new players to step into their shoes, either picking up the old characters or creating new ones. Also, for those who don't want a big commitment or would like a change of pace, there are a number of NPC's that I'm hiring out, including a number of minor villains. Anyone interested can let me know by email, IM on either this board or MSD's, or by posting here or in the "NPC's for Hire" thread

Of course, if anyone has any questions or comments, I'm open to them on either board.

Hmm. well I've always wanted to see an epic game in Ravenloft. I'm not sure if I can play in the game, at best I'd play an NPC, but could you give me a little more detail on how often you want players to post and base info? That way I can make a better decision.

At this point we're keeping it to at least one post per person per three days, with the weekend considered a single day. Whenever someone goes beyond three days without posting, I reserve the right to post in their behalf. I don't usually do it unless nobody is posting, in which case I push all the characters a little further down the plot as a jump start.

What do you mean by "base info?" If you mean character creation guidelines, we're using a 30 point buy system, 27th level or equivalant, 2,900,000 starting gold, and with few exceptions, we're sticking to material from the SRD. If anyone doesn't know what the SRD is, let me know! Details on character creation can be found in the Character Creation Thread.

As an alternative to crafting your own epic PC (a daunting feat, as any of my current players could tell you), we have two epic characters who are now lacking players, who are open for people to pick up:

Tessius Lionheart is the de facto leader of the party (!!), a royal spymaster who helped put together this group to go rescue his country's royal family from...wherever they vanished to.

Saint Balin Cormaeril is a Cormyrean knight who has left his followers at home to follow Tessius into the Great Unknown, taking only his faithful gold dragon steed for company.

Game information on either of these two is available, but please note that new players are entitled to change anything about these two that hasn't already been revealed in-game, which is quite a lot.

On the other hand, playing an NPC means you can post whenever your NPC would be around, which would depend upon the kind of NPC. If you are a follower of one of the PC's, that would be most of the time. Others, such as villagers, guides, or recurring villains, would be limited to whenever the DM lets you know that you're around. Naturally, I will try to give my guest NPC's as much air time as possible.

Available NPC's:

Sariel--a Very Young Gold Dragon (1st level Sorcerer). Sariel is the bonded mount of Saint Balin, a PC whose player is now AWOL. If anyone thinks a 27th level character is too much, Sariel is equivalent to 22nd level, and would be a great opportunity to upgrade later on.

????--a Greater Doppleganger who has infiltrated the PC's followers is finally available for play. Like playing with people's heads? This one would have to be played through IM, but it's a great opportunity for havoc.

????--The unnamed reader of the Tarroka from our first cut scene is also available. She won't be in play for a while, but the player will get inside info and be able to participate in matters behind the scenes as inhabitants of Saragoss prepare to welcome their new guests.

You're welcome to take him! If you're interested in game stats, send me an IM here or via MSD's site. I'm trying to keep the majority of PC info private.

In addition, while Cortez' player has not placed any of his followers up for grabs, he is willing to consider parting with control if anyone finds a particular one interesting. A few of them:

Captains
Shadross, Captain of the Demon Cutter
An agile elf with a mane of silver-white hair
Cortez's most trusted cohort
Tomar Wolffe, Captain of the Smiling Serpent
An imposing man with a scar cutting across his left cheek, and into his mop of red hair.
The least experienced of Cortez's captains. A former highwayman, and has always been a bit paranoid from it.
Celtan Tarr, Captain of the Brinewine Runner
A handsome fellow with fine blue eyes and a ready smile
An ex-smuggler, a fine sailor but he can be a bit cocky

Officers
Uraun Selagin, first mate of the Pirate's Bane
A well-fed looking man with a rasping but powerful voice and a thick, short-trimmed beard.
Always effiecient at ensuring that the Captain's orders are carried out.
Second Mate Armand Benthlos
A blonde-haired, babyfaced young officer
Asked for a hymnal on behalf of Undyros
Tuvyn
A gruff, bald officer wearing a cap
He carries a bracelet of his eldest daughter's hair, and worries about the choices she makes.
Belsarl
A lanky fellow, lean in the hip but broad-shouldered
He asked some pointed questions of the "land-lubber" heroes at dinner, Ciera in particular.

Sailors
Ortemas "Ort", ship's cook of the Pirate's Bane
A portly fellow with agile fingers, wearing a surprisingly clean apron
Makes a fine fruit salad
Undyros
Closing on fifty years, his grey hair hangs loose to his shoulders, framing a worn face with a rosy nose and cheeks
One of the crew's best carpenters. He'd be an officer now if he didn't get drunk and get into stupid fights too often. Has taken to leading the crew in hymns to show respect for their holy mission.
Oskler Irn, Seaman Second Class
a sputtering, hatchet-faced scarecrow of a sailor
An able sailor, reformed smuggler, decent gambler, and terrible liar, caught in Ciera's cabin.
Duranc
a sailor with a curtain of wheat-blonde hair
Dared Irn to find out what he could in Ciera's cabin, but his motives were perhaps more than simple curiosity.

Marines
Commander Wyth Mineg
Wiry and bookish looking, but deceptively strong and agile
Loner whose quick thinking alerted the Starcloaks to the doppelganger threat in Lyrabar

Links to the introduction of each character can be found in the Story So Far thread.

Sariel has been claimed! Thanks, Snake, for taking a part in the game. Hope you enjoy playing a gold dragon sorcerer!

Another unusual character now up for auction: Invictus is the shadow companion of Tessius, who has several levels of Shadowdancer. Tessius has been separated from the group, but Invictus is still around, and while many of the others are unconfortable having an undead ally, he has been quite helpful.

Anyone interested in playing a non-evil undead in RL?

Due to a bad case of real life, Snake will be unable to play Sariel. Anyone willing to pick up play of a gold dragon sorcerer should let me know any way they wish. Of course, there are still plenty of others to choose from, as well.

Seriously, don't sweat it, Snake! Real life happens to us all; why do you think Gonzoron has to take the reins of the game from me at times? You were prompt in telling us that things had changed, which is all we can expect, and more than many might do. Hopefully you'll manage to peek in from time to time and enjoy the show!

So is it just the one position that needs to be filled? Do you have to be the dragon?

Not at all. Every character offered in this thread is still available. This includes 2 PC's (Tessius and Balin), two cohorts (Invictus and Sariel), the doppleganger and the "tarroka reader." Also, anyone especially interested in one of Cortez' crew (listed above) can make an offer.

The PC's will meet a whole slew of characters of all kinds in Saragoss. If anyone has a concept to pitch, let me know.

Update: The PC's have entered into combat. Posting is a little slow on my end, but the fight will continue shortly. In the mean time, feel free to catch up on the game, place bets, whatever.

Oh, and if anyone wants to guess who their opponent is in this combat, please send me an IM. You'll have all the bragging rights you want, AFTER the PC's have defeated it. No Spoilers!!!

After what seems like months in limbo, the Reckonings adventure is back on track and ready to take Ravenloft to epic levels! Of course, I still need more NPC's, especially with the changes that we're about to see. I've got major NPC's that are going up for grabs now, and at the risk of exposing too much of my plans, I'm willing to provide a list of options (class/level/alignment/summary) to anyone who sends me an IM.

Of course, Sariel the gold dragon and Invictus the shadow are both still available, as are all the sailors (pending Cortez's approval) and the doppleganger. Saint Balin and Tessius will be written out very soon, but both are available until that officially happens.

Late Breaking News! The PC's have finally arrived in Saragoss!

This is the greatest opportunity yet for guest NPC's. Saragoss being the armpit-vortex of the waterways, it's possible for just about anyone to wind up there. In another thread located in the Core, we had a successful guest run of the Weathermay twins, and we hope to see a few of RL's smooth operators and individualists become truly independent. As before, I'm willing to send a list to anyone who sends me an IM.
