Rich Baker: Barovia now officially part of 4e FR :(

Post by Le Noir Faineant »

Hi all,

Looks like I wasn't alone with my shiny campaign idea for Ravenloft:Origins...

Straight from Richard Baker's blog over at WotC:

EtCR already showed a possibility of how to retcon Barovia into the FR setting, in the soon-to-be-released update on the campaign setting,
the story will apparently be made part of the official canon.

However, the mini-setting will apparently not be placed in Damara, as the 3e adventure gave the option,
but somewhere in the southern parts of Faerun, at the uttermost southern edge in Dambrath or Halruaa. :x

Depending on if you like 4e or not the following announcement might also be of interest to you:
While at the moment there are no immediate plans to update the classical module, we already are planting the root for future releases.
Other adventures to have an official place in Faerun from 4e onwards will be Skull & Crossbows - we already are in negotiations with original author Nigel Findley for a future collaboration -, as well as the all-time classic Marauders of Nibenay, and, ported from the Mystara setting, The Wrath of the Immortals.
I personally am pretty unnerved about this already.
Can't the FoS protest, or something?!

I mean, DAMBRATH?! Castle Ravenloft at the shore of the BAY OF THE DANCING DOLPHINS?!

Since this new policy of forced retconning doesn't touch Ravenloft alone,
there already some heated discussion going on over at the Gleemax boards: CLICKY

Yours,

Rafe

Every year I swear to myself that I'll be extra vigilant on this date. And every year I fall hard for something stupid. Congratulations, you got me. That was a good one.

You got me too.
And I came here looking for this year's joke.

It got me a teeny bit worried too, until I got to the line about negotiating with Nigel Findley (via ouija board, I presume? ) over the product rights.

 Oh, I had no idea he had died. This makes me very sad.
I certainly hadn't intended to mock his memory.
He was a great author, one of the few that dared to do products that were outside the box. May he rest in peace.

True, he was an exceptional writer, for the Shadowrun game as well as D&D. He actually died well over a decade ago, very suddenly.

Still, he'd probably have thought it was funny too, so what the hey?

I learned a couple of years ago to never ever believe anything I read on the internet on April 1. But I do have to say, it's the best April Fools thing I've seen this year.
