Ravenloft-ish song...

Post by Gonzoron of the FoS »

I may the last geek on earth to discover Jonathan Coulton, but just in case...

The rest of his songs aren't very Ravenloft-y (though the case could be made for Skullcrusher Mountain), but I haven't heard a bad one yet.

More Ravenlofty music

Hah! This vaguely reminds me of Kerli's "Walking On Air". It's a bit lighter (har har, air), but the creepy girl is ever so present.

For campy Halloweeny junk, I recommend Creature Feature. The most well-known song is "A Gorey Demise," based on Edward Gorey <3. http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/song/A+ ... e/11360223

If you're looking for more atmospheric soundtracks, there's always the Hannibal/Hannibal Rising OSTs, Ninth Gate, Donnie Darko, and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. I collect creepy soundtracks especially for use in RP and creative writing. If anyone knows of more, I'm all ears .

Actually, I'm a bit of a geek too, but I'd never heard of him.
If that makes you feel better... :)

I love this soundtrack, but the problem is there are a few different versions available. One has the various 1980s-era pop songs on it, and another has mostly synthesizer mood music. Needless to say, the latter is probably your better bet.

However, one further complication is this: I got the latter album, and found that the most Ravenloftish song by far was actually left off the album! It's called "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and it's legally available for purchase and download here at Amazon.

If you're familiar with the film, it's from the scene where Donnie is in the theater, talking with Frank.

That's a very common question around here. Here are a few threads on the subject. :)

And the wayback machine's archive of the Kargatane's suggestions.

Also, check out the recommendations in the RLDMG.

I'm curious as to why EVERYTHING in Nox Arcana's catalog hasn't been offered up here yet. :D

Fear not. Do a search on Nox Arcana and you'll see they've been mentioned many, many times before (with good reason!)

Haha, I thought that was a bit odd! Totally confined to this thread though it seems. :D Acid Witch plays some pretty good stuff, for those not familiar with their work.

I'd also recommend some funeral doom like Ahab's "Call of the Wretched Sea", or a bit of the avant-garde metal stylings of Dog Fashion Disco, particularly from their album, "Adultery", or perhaps some straight up doom from Dark Castle's album, "Spirited Migration." Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins have some pretty spooky/foreboding material as well.

Ahab - "The Hunt" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHVkJgwAXgE

Dog Fashion Disco - "Dead Virgins Don't Sing" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUXaH9fozIY

Dark Castle - "Awake In Sleep" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce0hXYMX ... 1&index=45

Dead Can Dance - "In The Kingdom Of The Blind, The One-Eyed Are Kings" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9GrM20UenA

Cocteau Twins - "Blind Dumb Deaf" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgCoHlIkHcU

Acid Witch - "The Black Witch" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7cipieVPP4

Caution: Acid Witch is not for the faint of heart. (and isn't so much a Ravenloft feel as it is just plain awesome)
