The Best Homebrew Domain Ever!

Post by Satyrwyld »

The Lord:

Cygna Carillon learned of the existence of monsters at an early age. As a teen, barely out of childhood, she was ambushed by a werewolf as she walked to her grandmother's cottage one evening. her life was saved by the appearance of a very charismatic and recently-turned vampire, whose radiance she became smitten with almost immediately. The vampire, rebuffed her, citing the obvious that she would not be safe with one such as he, and vanished into the night. For weeks afterward, Cygna's dreams were filled of the savage power of the werewolf, the inhuman beauty and grace of the vampire. Finally, she could bear it no more, and took steps to claim what she felt she was rightfully due - a superhuman beau to spend eternity with.

She was subtle at first, and so the earliest young men to die from wolfsbane and belladonna, hemlock and holly were written off as accidents, freak misfortunes. Ultimately, though, she was caught and driven from her home town. By the time she encountered the werewolf pack, she was so twisted by the Dark Powers that their claws had no effect on her, their teeth slid off as if from polished marble. She offered them the secrets of her town's defenses, if they agreed to infect the smith's son and bring him to her, that she might be with the strongest werecreature she could imagine.

The werewolves had no intention of honoring that bargain, and in so doing sealed the fate of every supernatural creature in their land, as Cygna's offer had sealed hers. When the slaughter began, the Mists rose, and when they parted, the survivors found themselves in a new land, Blanc de Lupe. Those who would prey on humanity within its borders find themselves sickened by the thought. Human blood turns to ash in the mouths of vampires, their flesh turns wretched and intolerable to lycanthropes and even ghouls. Supernatural predators trapped here find their will gradually sapped, becoming unwilling and unable to harm the men and women they hide among. Those who cannot consume other prey will slowly wither and die.

Cygna herself has been gifted with complete immunity to the supernatural properties of these creatures. No vampire can charm her, no ghost possess her, no hag curse her. In return, however, her single-minded obsession with them has become even more impossible, as the mere sight of her causes even the most mindless undead or sadistic fiend to become inexplicably uncomfortable, taking the soonest opportunity to retreat. She wanders the land, trying to infect handsome human men with vampirism or lycanthropy, warmly greeted by all mundane humans but compulsively shunned by those she fixedly pursues.

Current Sketch:

Cygna lives in the largest city in the domain, Tines, in the hopes that so many people around will attract a vampire she can court. She is sought after by a majority of the young men she meets, but many of them wind up yet another experiment on her part to turn them into a supernatural monster. Lacking formal education, her attempts hinge on folklore, and frequently employ poisonous herbs or other lethal measures, and the young men who pursue her wind up dead. Despite this, the population dotes on her, and she is able to support herself comfortably on gifts from well-wishers and would-be suitors.

Closing the Borders:

Cygna lacks the means to close the borders to mortals. When she desires the borders closed, monstrous creatures trying to leave find themselves wracked with guilt, eventually inducing nausea and even incapacitating stomach pain. (This effect has baffled more than one undead.) Upon deciding to return to the domain, the effects subside, but return full force if the effort to leave is renewed.

The Land:

Blanc de Lupe is a dreary, rain-soaked stretch of coastal forest. Few of its days are dry, and even fewer see direct sunlight. Winding trails snake through the woods, with some major roads connected to the main city of Tines and smaller villages, including the tribal village of Sea Thrust. Sea Thrust's fishing industry and Tines' mining and smithing form the backbone of the domain's economy.

The Folk:

The human residents of Blanc de Lupe enjoy a lifestyle on par with that of Mordentshire or Paridon. Stable mistways, abundant natural resources, and relatively safe traveling inside their domain make them a favorite destination for traders by both land and sea. The locals are, as a rule, fair-skinned and well-educated, even those working in the mines and smithies. The fishers of Sea Thrust tend to be slightly more tan due to exposure, but even at sea, the sun rarely shows itself.

Nun gut, es sei dir überlassen!
Zieh diesen Geist von seinem Urquell ab
Und führ ihn, kannst du ihn erfassen
Auf deinem Wege mit herab.

Not sure if I was too subtle in my reference, or if you're going for something else.
