According to Vistani legend, Addar sired the shadow unicorns of Ravenloft with a nightmare. Addar was once a vain and prideful outlander unicorn. He was lured into the Land of Mists by a nightmare that exploited said prideful nature with sycophantic promises of a forest glade with denizens that would worship him in return for protection. There they mated and produced the first shadow unicorns. Addar's ultimate fate remains unknown, whether he is deceased or the lord of his forest domain.[1]
Addar was once the unicorn steed for a paladin in the Circle, but accounts differ on exactly whom he served. He is a haughty creature that was corrupted by a nightmare serving Ebonbane. Their supposed offspring are the shadow unicorns. With his fall, he was drawn into the Land of Mists and imprisoned within the Phantasmal Forest in a clearing called Addar’s Glade which travels with him. He can lead travelers to any location in the Phantasmal Forest, but only if they appease his immense vanity.
