A nobleman and former friend (however fair-weather) of Prince Prospero, Arold van Feryld was killed in Prospero Hall by the curse of the red death plague. He now dwells there as a ghost waiting for Prospero's presumed imminent death so he may torment Prosper as revenge. He tries to drive off any guests that might stop the final countdown of the ebony clock.[1]
