Adros Janol

Adros Janol is a ghoul lord and the darklord of the Dread Elemental Domain of Grave.

In life (as of the 7th century of the Barovian Calendar), Janol was a Darkonian adventurer filled with hubris, believing himself to be untouchable by the dangers of the adventuring life. This was until the day his sister, Serisia Janol, decided to go out and become an adventurer on her own, despite his refusals to take her and his warnings not to go out on her own. Infuriated and believing she would come quickly running back, Adros refused to go after her. A year past, and she had not returned. Eventually his guilt compelled him to go after her.

During Adros' search, he came across a band of adventurers. They informed him she had traveled with them but had been killed by a necromancer's spell. They left her buried in a nearby town. Adros traveled to the town, but the townspeople claimed never to have seen her and that she was never buried there. Not finding her there, he started searching nearby locations but to no success. Eventually, Adros' paranoia grew, and he came to believe some force had hidden her grave under a different name. Adros began the grim task of grave robbing to find her corpse and even hiring thieves to help him with his acts of desecration.

After becoming trapped in a warded mausoleum with several of the hired help, Adros murdered them (as he was planning to eventualy anyway) and eventually became hungry enough to eat their remains. Somehow, the mausoleum's walls opened up following this act of evil. At first hesitating, Adros emerged from the mausoleum to find the sky the color of midnight black, and then he collapsed in a writhing mass. When he awoke, he was the darklord of the Domain of Graven and also a ghoul lord.

Adros Janol's disposition depends on his current hunger. If craving flesh, he will attack on sight. If not, he will be more amicable and wanting to learn about what has been happening in the world outside his domain.
