Father Marten is a minor character from Black Crusade. He is one of the Empyrean Church's clergy working in Firalene Down. After a string of murders happened following the execution of Humphrey Lassiter, he attributed the deaths to a vengeful ghost. In fact, a proper explanation was the existence of a witch. However, Marten concealed this fact as it would draw in a response from the overly paranoid Empyrean Inquisition, resulting in mass arrests and hysteria that would tear the town apart. Father Lambrecht saw this as the act of a coward and exposed the culprit, Humphrey's father. When Marten and Lambrecht came to words over Lambrecht's actions, Marten turned the people against Lambrecht by exposing his use of witchcraft and murder of a shepherd boy. Lambrecht vowed revenge, and cast an evil spell in a graveyard. Later animated undead were seen dancing with a burning copy of the Septateuch and one wearing the priestly vestments of the Church, reflecting that Marten was murdered. Lambrecht put down the undead in order to get in good with the nearby authorities.[1]
