A toret is usually an anchorite who has established a temple of the Church of Ezra with a congregation of at least five followers. Any anchorite, including player characters, can earn the rank of toret. The title is independent of experience level. However, the responsibilities do not lend themselves well to the life of a traveling adventurer. A toret serves as the guardian of his or her congregation, in so doing earning prestige within the Church. Torets may request financial assistance from their founding sect (though such requests may not always be fulfilled to their satisfaction). And torets may occasionally be called upon to act as council for their local sentire.[1] Individuals in the Church hierarchy, including lay members, may also be granted the toret, for example the Toret Johann Severin.
