Gatwe

Gatwe is a broken one and the first darklord of Nzari (but now shares that title with Mr. Klein.) Unlike many broken ones, Gatwe was not the victim of another's weird science or foul magical experiments, rather he was the victim of his own black magic turned onto him (with some intervention of the Dark Powers.

Background

As a youth, Gatwe noticed how others would disobey his father, the chief of the Uambe Tribe and later, the shaman Gatwe apprenticed under and yet not be severely punished. Gatwe's father told him that it is not the proper way to for one person to force his will upon another, and Gatwe's mentor told him that shamans made an vow never to work harm upon other people. Yet Gatwe transgressed against both of these moral strictures in order exert his will upon the world. He began studying dread sorcery and eventually used his vile knowledge to murder his shamanic master and assume his place.

Gatwe followed the murder of his master with the murder of Nikis, a woman who he loved but did not return her love, and the lover she chose instead of Gatwe. Then he put the blame on a rival village. Although nobody could suspect him of performing such an unthinkable act as the murder of his own master, Gatwe's arrogance and open abuse of his power alienated those from his community from him. They began shunning and disobeying them. However, Gatwe was canny and planned to murder his family so that he could portray himself as a victim of evil forces rather than the victimizer. After he weaved his spell to murder everyone in his family's residence, the Dark Powers grabbed him and warped him into a mix of human and leopard.

Gatwe has been given physical might and the power to control beasts and monsters. These come at great price. In his transformation, Gatwe lost his arcane and magical abilities. He also became unquestionably not human, leaving him forever an exile. He can disguise his form through no method, magical or mundane. And more recently, his humiliating defeats at the hands of Mr. Klein have shook Gatwe to his core.
