Nuriyya al-Mahdavi is the daughter of Ghassan al-Mahdavi, and she became Sheikha of the House of Mahdavi after he was slain by the Herald of Night in 742 BC. Believing that her people's survival depends upon avoiding the Herald of Night, she rarely leads her people out of the deep desert.[1]
Although Ghassan raised his daughter to lead the Mahdavi after him, Waleed ibn Imaad and other elders resist the notion of a woman leading them. Despite their doubts, Nuriyya has proven herself fierce but honorable.[1]
