Michael Smythe

Michael Smythe is the son of Alois Smythe, brother to Salome Merryweather-Smythe, the husband of Mrs. Smythe, and the father of Aleister Smythe.

As Alois' eldest son and heir, Michael took up his father's obsession with advancing through the ranks of the Fraternity of Shadows. He never managed to attain the rank of Umbra, however, so he never received immortality.

Michael forced Aleister to join the Fraternity against his will, once his son came of age to do so. His current whereabouts are unknown, but he was no longer living at the main family estate when his father Alois died. In all likelihood, Michael was estranged from Aleister by this point, as his son hated him for forcing him to join the Fraternity. The fact that he did not claim ownership of the family home after Alois' death, and did not try to make his son re-marry and conceive another heir, suggests that he was already dead at this time.
