A planar wound is a tear, a puncture, and like damage to the fabric of the Lands of Mists. By far the most glaring planar wound is the Shadow Rift, a miles long and wide gash torn open during the Great Upheaval when Gwydion, in attempting break free of his prison, dragged himself and the hidden kingdom of the Arak from beneath the Mountains of Misery to the frontier with Falkovnia, displacing G'Henna and Markovia in the process. Portal, in constract, are punctures clean through the planar fabric of the Land of Mists. Where the exterior side of this fabric is porous, permitting one way portals into the domain opened by potent spellcasters, mere mortal magic cannot pierce the intern side of this fabric. A handful of artifacts and gates have the potential to perhaps do so, but even this remains to be proved. Evil outsiders constitute a further wound, their reality wrinkles being blemish upon the face of the planar fabric. The blemish is healed bit by bit as fiends are lured into trading away their otherworldly essence for power within the Land of Mists though power rituals. Good outsiders are constitute a more significant wound that their evil opposites. Stability of the Land of Mists errodes in their very presence. The good outsiders may curtail cumulative the effect by not lingering overlong in one place or they by deliberably let it loose with madnessing consequences for the bodies and minds of others at hand. Outsiders of either strip, cannot puncture on their the fabric, but they are less bound by its rules than another being in the Land of Mists.
