They dragged the repulsive crone roughly to the pyre in the city square, and I could not help but think of the trials I had witnessed many a time in my homeland. But something was different here. The witch did not shout her defiance, nor plead for mercy, nor lash out with her spellcraft. She strode forward calmly, hollow and resigned.
