The Blackburn-Bruce family was a family of noveau riche who parleyed wealth[1] into ownership of Blackburn's Crossing (along with a portion of the Arden River)[2] and noble status.[1] Famous for their interest in alchemy, they fled when public opinion turned against them in the wake of the Apparatus incident (579 BC).[1] The family manor straddles the Arden River.
