A minor character from the novel Tower of Doom, "the Old Baron" (otherwise unnamed) was the father of both Baron Caidin and Wort and the former ruler of Nartok.

History

The Old Baron was an adulterer, having an illicit relationship with a woman named Kylene. Both his wife, the Old Baroness, and Kylene gave birth two children, Worren and Caidin, on the same night. Because of Worren's deformities, the Old Baron switched out the stories of their parentage, with Caidin becoming the official heir and Worren becoming labeled the bastard. To cover up this transgression, the Old Baron poisoned both Kylene and his wife, murdering them. He ordered his men to throw Irsyla, the midwife who oversaw the births, into a crevice, and they left her for dead. However, Irsyla survived and even outlived the Old Baron, returning to Nartok following the Baron's eventual death from old age. Many years later, she told Mika of the Old Baron's crimes before Irsyla passed away of old age herself.[1]
