In Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, Jeref Maurgen is the husband of Helene Maurgen, the person who supplies one of the possible module hooks given in the book. Jeref was a former adventurer who ventured in Barovia with equipment suitable for a monster hunter. While there, he at some point encountered Varikov the Trapper and was murdered. His remains are held in Area 72.[1]
