The practice of "burying" sailors, and others who have died aboard ship, at sea, whether with or without proper rites, makes of the sea a grave. Those who are sent off without proper rites risk returning from the grave, particularly as incorporeal undead such as geists and ghosts. Those rare individuals who return as corporeal undead take the shape of lacedons, sea zombies, or even jolly rogers.
