Some anthropologists theorize that the advent of the institution of property the incest taboo, in that the bartering of daughters inspired the notion of trade. Others believe that the notion of property derives from competition for scarce resources. In either case, in most known cultures, theft of property is taboo. The transgression of this taboo by a darklord or a temporal leader in a given land could have repercussions upon the integrity of property relations and of property itself in that land.
